The partner of Matt Ratana claims that the Metropolitan Police's actions resulted in his tragic passing.

The significant other of a sergeant from the Metropolitan Police was fatally shot while in custody, and has expressed disappointment in the officers for a series of major oversights.

On the morning of September 25, 2020, Louis de Zoysa fatally shot Matt Ratana with an old-fashioned gun at the Croydon custody suite in southern London.

At 26 years old, De Zoysa was previously taken into custody and searched. However, the officers were unable to locate the gun he had concealed in his underarm holster, even though they found bullets in his pocket.

On Monday at Croydon Town Hall, Senior Coroner Sarah Ormond-Walshe concluded an investigation into Sgt Ratana’s death and determined it to be an unlawful killing.

Sgt Ratana’s significant other of five years, Su Bushby, expressed frustration and anger over his death, stating that it could have been prevented.

She stated that if there had not been a series of significant errors and if individuals had fulfilled their duties, Matt would still be alive at present.
