According to authorities, a motorist in St Louis successfully prevented a carjacking by offering to pray with the suspect who was wielding an axe.
The city’s prosecutors have filed charges against 37-year-old Romel S Taylor for a series of offenses, including robbing a Bank of America and breaking into a storage shed for tools.
On October 18, there was an event where Mr. Taylor supposedly attacked the driver of a silver Audi as they were exiting their vehicle and brandished an axe at them.
According to a statement submitted by the St. Louis police to the court, the defendant brandished a weapon and demanded the keys from Victim 1, to which Victim responded, “Will you pray with me?”
The victim started to pray, causing the defendant to leave.
According to authorities, this strange occurrence was a part of an eight-week period of criminal activity that spanned throughout the city of Missouri. It supposedly started on September 15th with the reported theft of a leafblower and other equipment.
Two days after his alleged encounter with the divine, Mr. Taylor reportedly entered a bank and mimed having a gun, ultimately taking $4,000.
The police reported that on November 9th, he successfully took control of a car through force and stole a black BMW. However, he was later apprehended when the victim used their phone’s tracking system to locate the vehicle, which still contained the phone.
Mr. Taylor faces accusations of committing three instances of robbery or attempted robbery in the first degree, one instance of burglary in the second degree, and one instance of armed criminal activity. It is unknown if he has pleaded guilty or not.
