According to Oleksandr Prokudin, the governor of Kherson Oblast, a region in the southern part of Ukraine that is partially occupied, the city’s administrative center (which shares the same name as the larger area) has been continuously bombarded by the Russian military throughout the day.

The foreign minister of Japan has unexpectedly arrived in Kyiv for a visit.

According to the embassy in Kyiv, Yoko Kamikawa arrived this morning in the early hours. This marks her first trip overseas in 2024.

As soon as she arrived, she went to a monument honoring the victims of the Russian annexation in Bucha, located on the northern periphery of Kyiv.

President Zelensky took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say that Russia’s frozen assets must be used to support Ukraine. He said that the allocation of $300 billion to Ukraine efforts would be an “entirely just and legitimate response”.

He stated that there are approximately $300 billion of Russian assets frozen outside of the country, and they should be utilized to aid Ukraine.
