According to his agent, Mohamed Salah’s hamstring injury is more severe than originally believed and could sideline him for up to four weeks.
This indicates that Liverpool will not be able to have their leading scorer for their upcoming matches against Chelsea and Arsenal next week, potentially causing him to be absent for the next six games.
Unfortunately, it seems that Salah’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations is in jeopardy. Egypt, who needed to secure a win against Cape Verde on Monday to avoid being eliminated in the group stage, may have to continue without their captain until the final on February 11th if he is able to recover quickly.
The 31-year-old sustained an injury during their match against Ghana on Thursday and has been officially declared unavailable for the next two games for his team.
However, Salah’s representative Ramy Abbas stated on Twitter that “Mohammed’s injury is more severe than initially expected and he will be sidelined for 21-28 days rather than just two games. The best way for him to potentially take part in the ongoing AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team once he has fully recovered.”
On Sunday, Liverpool’s manager Jurgen Klopp stated that Salah will come back to England for treatment and may consider returning to Africa if he heals and Egypt advances.
The German individual stated: “Regardless of how long he is absent, it seems logical to have him do rehabilitation with either us or our staff. I am unsure if this has already been confirmed.”
“If Egypt makes it to the final and is in good physical condition before the match, then it’s likely that he will return to play. Why wouldn’t he? It’s straightforward.”
Liverpool has emerged victorious in all three matches after Salah’s departure for the Cup of Nations. During these games, fellow forwards Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota each managed to score two goals at Bournemouth. Despite his absence, Salah has still achieved impressive stats with 18 goals and nine assists in 27 appearances for Liverpool this season.
