Roberto De Zerbi acknowledged that a weakened Brighton team is losing too many points in the Premier League, after a disappointing goalless draw with Wolves.
Albion dominated possession at the Amex Stadium as they stretched their unbeaten home run to a club-record nine top-flight fixtures to climb to seventh, above Manchester United on goal difference.
However, the Seagulls were unable to secure a decisive advantage on Monday night and have ended up with five draws in those games, the highest number of draws in the league with a total of eight matches.
De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton, believes that his team’s long list of injuries and involvement in European competitions are affecting their performance in the league.
The Italian coach, whose team tied 0-0 with West Ham in their last match, stated that we need to comprehend the extent of our injuries and the amount of energy we used in the Europa League and FA Cup. We also need to assess whether we will have good or bad luck.
Unfortunately, in our past two Premier League matches, we have been unsuccessful in securing wins despite playing well. This has resulted in us losing valuable points.
Unfortunately, we have not had much luck with five games ending in a draw while playing at home. These games include Sheffield United, Burnley, Fulham, and Wolverhampton. We strongly believe that we deserved to win each of these matches.
Although we didn’t have our best performance tonight, we set ourselves up for a potential win.
“Unfortunately, we made errors during the most important part of our presentation which resulted in our loss.”
Brighton dominated the game against Wolves, but failed to pose a serious threat.
Facundo Buonanotte attempted a header early on, but it was cleared by Tommy Doyle. Wanderers’ captain Maximilian Kilman also hit his own goal frame.
De Zerbi is currently lacking the artistic abilities of Kaoru Mitoma, Simon Adingra, Ansu Fati, Solly March, and Julio Enciso. However, he has rejected the idea of bringing in new players this month.
He stated that the transfer market is not something he is involved in.
”
I need to concentrate on my job, which involves organizing and styling, as well as ensuring that the team performs well and earns points.
“We currently hold the seventh position on the table and despite facing numerous challenges in the first part of the season, we should take pride in our performance as it exceeds the circumstances we are facing.”
Last season, the Wolves were beaten by a score of 6-0 in this match, but they had a chance to secure a win.
Pedro Neto, Matheus Cunha, and Mario Lemina were all near scoring for the away team, who were focused on counter-attacking.
In the absence of Hwang Hee-chan, who has scored 10 goals, Neto took on the role of central striker during his first start since October in the match on the south coast.
Gary O’Neil, the manager of Wolves, was impressed by the performance of the Portuguese forward. However, he is also looking to strengthen their attacking options during the upcoming transfer window.
“We always had that threat,” said O’Neil. “Pedro was good, probably played a little bit longer than we would have liked ideally.
I believed there was more potential for success, so I challenged him more than I should have. However, I am glad that he managed to overcome it.
In the coming days, we aim to make a move that will benefit us in that specific aspect.
“Until that point, we put in a lot of effort to optimize our resources and I believe we did a good job of that today.”
Our team worked cohesively and showed unity, even when faced with challenges. We were able to handle difficult situations and always posed a threat to our opponents.
