Former England and Manchester City midfielder Jill Scott has been added to the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame, joining other esteemed Lionesses.
Scott, who is 36 years old, retired in August of last year after playing in 161 games and scoring 27 goals for the English team. She was also a member of the Lionesses’ victorious European Championships team in 2022.
She achieved success at the club level, winning the Women’s Super League with Manchester City in 2016 and adding three FA Cup victories to her record.
Scott expressed his gratitude at being inducted into the Hall of Fame, stating that it was a great honor. She mentioned being present on opening day with Rachel Brown-Finnis at the museum and was amazed at its growth. She also acknowledged the significant progress of women’s football and felt fortunate to have been a part of its journey.
“I am honored to see names like Rachel Yankey, Kelly Smith, and Karen Carney on the list. They are not only incredible football players, but also wonderful individuals. It’s truly special to have my name included among them. I cannot wait to share this with my family and make them proud.”
Scott gave her England cap, earned during an international friendly match against the Czech Republic on November 12, 2019, to the museum. It is currently being showcased.
Outside of the field, Scott, who was recently honored with a spot in the Women’s Super League Hall of Fame, is recognized for her passion for coffee and manages her own coffee establishment, Boxx2Boxx Coffee, located in Manchester.
Jill Scott is the creator of the Jill Scott Academy, which aims to support and guide young, up-and-coming soccer players. She has also played a coaching role for City’s academy athletes.
The CEO of the National Football Museum, Tim Desmond, stated that the inclusion of Jill Scott in the Hall of Fame is a significant event.
“Her accomplishments in her career, impact on women’s soccer, and influence on the younger generation make her an outstanding inductee.”
“We’ve seen here first-hand at the museum the impact the Lionesses 2022 European victory has had, and Jill was as big a part of that as anyone.
”
The exhibition for Crossing The Line: The Story of Women’s Football received an overwhelmingly positive response from visitors. It successfully captured the essence and lasting influence of their 2022 Euro victory.
Jill Scott is not just a soccer player, but also a role model for young girls, showing them the potential for success in football. We are honored to induct her into our Hall of Fame and honor her impact on the sport.
