Reports state that Manchester United has reached out to Newcastle’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth.
The Athletic has stated that the 52-year-old has informed Newcastle that he has been approached by the Red Devils. However, there has been no official communication between the two clubs.
Numerous news sources have reported that the Old Trafford team desires for Ashworth to take up his position this summer in order to manage their transfer dealings.
Jim Ratcliffe’s plan to purchase a 25% share in the club has been given the green light from both the Premier League and Football Association. The transaction is anticipated to be finalized by next week.
Ratcliffe has quickly made an impact by assuming control of United’s football operations through his chemicals company, Ineos.
Sir Dave Brailsford, the sporting director at Ineos, has been more involved with the club since Ratcliffe’s agreement was made public in December.
Last month, United officially announced the hiring of Omar Berrada from Manchester City as their new CEO.
Ineos is currently examining options to enhance the leadership team of United’s football club, with a specific focus on recruitment. Ashworth is a highly suitable candidate for this role.
He has an outstanding resume from his past positions as the sporting and technical director for West Brom and Brighton, and also served as the FA’s director of elite development for four years.
While at Brighton, Ashworth was responsible for acquiring players such as Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Marc Cucurella. During his time at Newcastle, he brought in Alexander Isak, Sven Botman, and Anthony Gordon.
