Two employees died in an accident on a Holland America cruise ship.

Holland America cruise line has reported that two personnel on a cruise vessel have died in an “incident” within the ship’s engineering area.

Holland America has reported that unidentified members of the crew passed away on Friday at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas while the Nieuw Amsterdam, based in Florida, was docked.

The cruise line notified authorities and is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Employees of the ship were being provided with counseling services.

ABC News stated that the cause of death for the individuals was an inadvertent release of steam, however, this has not been verified by Holland America.

“We at Holland America Line are greatly saddened by this event and our hearts go out to the families of our staff during this challenging period,” the statement read. “Ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all our guests and crew members remains our top priority.”

The sailing company did not provide additional information about the staff onboard and did not specify which organization was conducting the inquiry. The vessel departed from Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a week-long journey.
