Sarah Ferguson has provided an update on Kate Middleton's skin cancer diagnosis, saying that the Duchess of Cambridge is "doing well."

The medical condition of skin cancer has been identified in Sarah, who holds the title of Duchess of York.

Sarah Ferguson has stated that she is feeling positive and optimistic as she speaks out for the first time since the news of her fight against a severe type of skin cancer was disclosed.

The Duchess of York shared on Instagram that she has been spending time alone at her residence in Austria after being diagnosed, which happened shortly after she disclosed her battle with breast cancer.

She expressed that being diagnosed with cancer again was unexpected, but she remains positive and appreciative of the kind words and encouragement she has received.

During the Duchess’ reconstructive surgery, her dermatologist requested that several moles be tested, which led to the discovery of malignant melanoma.

The Princess of Wales has been hospitalized since Tuesday for recovery from a successful abdominal surgery at the London Clinic.

It has been reported that she is in good condition, but she will remain hospitalized for a few more days. She is not expected to resume her official duties until after Easter.

Consequently, the upcoming Queen must refrain from attending certain events that she typically supports, such as Children’s Mental Health Week, The BAFTAs, and the Commonwealth Day service.

Is it possible to avoid melanoma?

According to Doctor Shah, melanoma is primarily a result of being exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or man-made sources like tanning beds. The most effective method for preventing melanoma is to shield your skin from UV harm.

To protect yourself from the harmful effects of the sun, make sure to avoid getting sunburned and seek shade during the peak hours of 11am to 3pm. You should also use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 and at least four stars, and remember to reapply it regularly. Wearing protective clothing, like a hat, sunglasses, and long sleeves, can also help shield your skin. Additionally, it is important to steer clear of sunbeds and tanning lamps.

To lower your chances of developing melanoma, it’s important to be conscious of your skin and routinely check for any alterations. If you notice any issues with your skin or moles, make an appointment with your GP promptly.

How frequently should we receive check-ups?

There is no specific guideline for the frequency at which you should receive check-ups from a general practitioner or a dermatologist.

Doctor Zulqarnain Shah stated that the frequency of skin checks may vary based on individual risk factors, such as skin type, family history, sun exposure, and number of moles. Those concerned about their risk of melanoma should consult their GP for personalized advice and potential referral to a dermatologist.

What course of action should we take if we observe anything alarming?

Dr. Shah emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention as soon as possible if you observe any symptoms of melanoma or notice any abnormal changes in your skin. Ignoring these signs or waiting for them to disappear is not recommended. It is advised to see your general practitioner without delay.

During the examination, your skin will be assessed and you will be asked about any symptoms or medical background. Additionally, a photo of any moles or marks may be taken and sent to a dermatologist for further evaluation. In the case that your general practitioner suspects melanoma, they will promptly refer you to a dermatologist within two weeks for confirmation of the diagnosis and a discussion of potential treatment options.

What is the best way to examine our skin?

It is important to regularly examine your skin, preferably on a monthly basis.

According to Doctor Zulqarnain Shah, the simplest method to accomplish this is by using a mirror or enlisting the help of another person to inspect difficult-to-see areas like your back, scalp, ears, and genitals. Be vigilant for any new or evolving moles or marks on your skin and follow the ABCDE checklist. If you observe anything out of the ordinary, contact your GP promptly.

What are the indicators of melanoma?

According to Dr. Zulqarnain Shah, a medical director and general practitioner at SSP Health, there are various indicators of melanoma that we should all be aware of. These include alterations in the size, shape, color, or texture of a mole or any other part of the skin. To assist in identifying these warning signs, you can refer to the ABCDE checklist.

A for asymmetry: the two sides of the mole do not match. B for border: the edges of the mole are not smooth or even. C for colour: the mole has varying shades of brown, black, red, pink, white, or blue. D for diameter: the mole is bigger than 6mm in size. E for evolving: the mole undergoes changes over time in any manner.

Be sure to watch for any moles that appear different from your other moles or seem abnormal.
