According to CAIR Research and Advocacy Director Corey Saylor, the use of Islamophobic and anti-Palestinian language has led to a rise in discrimination and violence against Palestinians in Gaza, as well as silencing those who advocate for Palestinian human rights in the United States. This has created an unprecedented increase in bigotry.
“The Muslim community in America is currently experiencing a significant increase in Islamophobic discrimination, which is the most severe that has been recorded since former candidate Donald Trump announced his Muslim Ban in December 2015.”
Apart from the grievances, the organization reported that its division for protecting civil rights has been monitoring instances of violence towards Muslim and Palestinian communities. These incidents include one homicide, two attempted homicides, threats of violence, and the use of vehicles as weapons to target protestors.
In the state of Illinois, a 6-year-old named Wadea Al-Fayoume was fatally stabbed by his landlord last month. The perpetrator was reportedly fixated on war. Wadea’s mother was also attacked and is currently in critical condition.
Mr. Saylor urged President Biden to request a ceasefire, emphasizing that it is long overdue.
Several other organizations focused on civil rights have noted an increase in occurrences of anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, and anti-Palestinian behavior.
The Anti-Defamation League stated that there has been a 388% rise in incidents of harassment, vandalism, and assault in October based on initial data gathered since the beginning of the conflict.
The CEO of the organization, Jonathan Greenblatt, stated that when conflict arises in Israel, there is often an increase in antisemitic incidents both in the US and around the world.
