Live updates from day two of CPAC as potential running mates for Trump make their pitches.

Gaetz demands that the US stop providing aid to Israel unless the country cuts its funding for the United Nations.

The newest edition of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is currently taking place- a four-day event filled with showy speeches, disputes over cultural issues, and promotion of the MAGA platform for the upcoming election.

Once again, the event will feature Donald Trump as the main speaker. He will deliver the keynote address on Saturday and then travel to South Carolina for the state’s Republican primary.

Nikki Haley will not attend the conference, but she did share a strong message with voters this week. She promised to continue fighting for the GOP presidential nomination.

During a panel event with Steve Bannon on Thursday, conservative activist Jack Posobiec celebrated the downfall of democracy, stating, “Our goal is to completely overthrow it. While we may not have achieved our objective on January 6, we will continue our efforts to eliminate it.”

Numerous individuals who were anticipated to be considered as potential running mates for Trump delivered grandiose speeches in an attempt to win his favor. Elise Stefanik, Byron Donalds, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, and Kristi Noem were among the individuals who spoke on stage.

The event has lost some of its previous impact, with certain agenda items having low attendance and a smaller but still unusual merchandise market.

According to Gaetz, he consistently speaks out the most about ethics, even amid an investigation into sexual misconduct.

Andrew Feinberg writes:

During a speech at a conservative conference, Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida criticized the chairman of the House Ethics Committee, which has been investigating allegations that he had sexual relations with a minor while in office.

Mr. Gaetz, who was investigated by the Department of Justice for several years on suspicion of violating laws against sex trafficking by taking an underage female across state lines for illegal activities, was not prosecuted by authorities after the investigation concluded last year.

However, the Republican leader, known for his strong opinions, has faced difficulties with the Ethics panel, which may have motivated his attempt to remove ex-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position in the previous year. Despite this, he is currently under investigation by the House for the incident, in which the investigators have reportedly interviewed both the woman involved and a former acquaintance of the congressman who claims to have witnessed him engaging in sexual activity with a minor.

Come one, come all! It’s time for the Trump vice presidential selection process…

Eric Garcia writes:

As the Republican presidential primary has already been determined in favor of former President Donald Trump, Friday’s Conservative Political Action Conference was an opportunity for potential running mates to audition for Mr. Trump.

Being chosen as Trump’s running mate is a risky undertaking. The previous person in this role, the composed and devout Mike Pence, notably disagreed with Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election, leading to threats against Pence’s life by Trump supporters.

Similarly, Trump will reach the age of 78 on January 20, 2024 and will only be able to serve four more years. If Trump is re-elected, this individual will essentially become his successor, with both advantages and disadvantages. However, if Trump is not re-elected, this individual will be responsible for mending the broken pieces within the Republican Party. In the event that Trump is found guilty of a crime during the campaign or passes away while in office, this person will become the face of the Republican Party.

Nigel Farage continuously brings up issues with banking at the American CPAC conference.

During his speech at CPAC, Nigel Farage spoke about a dispute he had with Coutts, a bank owned by NatWest, regarding the closure of his account due to differing political views. This incident resulted in the resignations of Dame Alison Rose and Peter Flavel, top executives at NatWest and Coutts. NatWest has since acknowledged their mishandling of the situation and apologized, but maintains that their decision to close Farage’s account was within their rights and primarily for business reasons. Mr. Farage also criticized the current trend of “woke corporate culture” that leads to the cancellation of individuals, including in the banking industry.

Stefanik was criticized for making a false claim about the economy and unemployment.

Multiple individuals on X have criticized Rep Elise Stefanik for her false statement regarding the state of the economy at the start of Joe Biden’s presidency, referring to it as a “blatant lie.”

At CPAC, she stated that when the previous president’s term ended, it marked the “most robust economy in my generation…with the lowest joblessness in five decades.”

The unemployment rate decreased from 6.3% in January 2021 to 3.7% currently.

According to Republicans opposed to Trump, the economic growth during his presidency was the lowest since the Great Depression.

A person who was working with the FBI as an informant has been detained once more, with prosecutors cautioning that they believe he will attempt to escape the United States.

On February 22nd, Alexander Smirnov was taken into custody for the second time this month on similar charges. This was based on a previous indictment and an arrest warrant issued by California. According to Smirnov’s lawyers, the filing was made on Thursday. A district judge in California has ordered Smirnov to appear in court at 9:00 am on Monday, February 26th.

The recent ruling from the Central District Court of California stated that Smirnov’s lawyer requested an urgent hearing in the District of Nevada in order to secure the release of Defendant Smirnov, potentially allowing him to flee the country.

Stephen Miller alleges that the Democrats have modified the legislation in order to target Trump.

According to Stephen Miller, a former speechwriter for Donald Trump, the state of New York deliberately altered its laws in order to target and harm the former president. Miller made these remarks while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington DC on February 23rd. He expressed concern that overly broad laws could be used to oppress and destroy individuals, citing the example of New York’s actions against Trump. Miller also asserted that this action was unconstitutional. This statement followed a ruling by New York Judge Arthur Engoron, which ordered Trump, his family members, his company, and his business associates to pay over $350 million in damages and temporarily limited their ability to conduct business within the state.
