Despite protests, Hungary will not reimplement a ban on importing honey from Ukraine.

Despite pressure from farmers protesting the impact of cheap honey imports from Ukraine on their businesses, Hungary has no plans to reimpose a ban on these products.

Last year, the administration headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban enforced a restriction on the import of 24 agricultural items from Ukraine, which included grains, pork, and honey. However, on 19 February, the ban on honey was lifted, leading to upheaval among Ukraine’s 22,000 beekeepers.

The Agriculture Minister, Istvan Nagy, informed Reuters that the independent restriction on imports did not yield the desired results in the local market. Wholesale prices have not risen as much as local farmers had anticipated, and it has also negatively affected companies that exported honey to the EU.

According to him, the Ukrainian honey is necessary for honey exporters in order for them to fulfill their contractual obligations.

According to Nagy, the ban was lifted because it was not beneficial to Hungarian beekeepers and did not have a noticeable effect. We did not want to cause more issues, so we had to open our market again.

When questioned about the potential reinstatement of the import prohibition, he stated that there would be “no consideration since it would have no effect.”

The foreign minister of Ukraine has insisted that the US “provide us with the necessary Patriots!” while urging Washington to give them missiles to strengthen their defense against Russia.

“Our ability to safeguard not only the well-being of our citizens, but also our economy from harm would be greatly enhanced if we possessed sufficient air defense capabilities, particularly the Patriot system,” stated Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with the Politico website.

The United States-produced Patriot missiles, used for surface-to-air defense, have proven to be highly effective in intercepting ballistic missiles. Repeatedly, Kyiv has requested that the US provide it with these weapons.

Alexsandr Lukashenko has inspected a tank battalion on Belarus’s border with Nato member Lithuania and reminded his troops that “any violation of the state border is a shoot-to-kill.”

A Telegram channel connected to Lukashenko’s administration reported that he, an ally of Putin, stated that any aggressive acts along the border with Lithuania should be responded to with the use of force. Lukashenko’s country was utilized by Russia to launch their invasion of Ukraine.

“I will publicly state that any provocation should be halted using military actions,” Lukashenko stated. “Any breach of the country’s border will be met with lethal force.”

The country of Lithuania, a member of both the EU and Nato, has provided assistance to the opposition of Belarus. However, its relationship with Minsk has significantly deteriorated in recent times.

Throughout Russia’s complete invasion of Ukraine, Belarus has offered logistical assistance to Moscow.

Lukashenko, the president of Belarus since 1994 who has been branded Europe’s last dictator, backed Russia’s invasion by allowing Moscow to use its territory to launch the war, but is faced with a crippled economy that is heavily reliant on trade with Russia.

As a reminder, Ukraine is increasing their investment in domestic weapons production in order to better protect from Russian aggression.

Ukraine needs any edge it can get to repel Russia from its territory. One emerging bright spot is its small but fast-growing defense industry, which the government is flooding with money in hopes that a surge of homemade weapons and ammunition can help turn the tide.

The level of exertion significantly increased in the last 12 months as the United States and Europe worked hard to supply weapons and assistance to Ukraine, which is facing a formidable Russian military supported by a successful domestic defense sector.

Russian media reports that an attempted attack by pro-Ukrainian Russian fighters in the Samara region of Russia has been foiled.

According to Interfax news agency, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Tuesday that they had prevented an assault planned by a collaborator of the Russian Volunteer Corps, an organization of Russian fighters supporting Kyiv, in the Samara region of Russia.
