Police are continuing their search for the perpetrator responsible for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old male in a park. In addition, a photo of the victim has been made public as a show of remembrance and numerous tributes have been shared in honor of the young boy.
Harleigh Hepworth, a resident of Rugeley, was assaulted in West Park in Wolverhampton and was declared deceased by paramedics at approximately 4:30pm on Thursday.
A witness attempted to resuscitate him with CPR before the West Midlands Ambulance Service took over. No one has been arrested at this point.
West Midlands Police shared a photo of Harleigh wearing a Hednesford Town football jersey, celebrating a cup victory in the Walsall Junior Youth Football League.
According to Billy Brown, a family friend, another life has been tragically taken by knife violence. This issue needs to be addressed and prevented. We must acknowledge that we can all make mistakes and reflect on them later in life.
I am extremely dismayed and disturbed by the event that has occurred to a dear family acquaintance. He was adored by all as a humorous, charming, and attractive young man who was tragically taken from us too soon.
He suggested creating a memorial or stand to honor Harleigh Hepworth, as a way to remember him and acknowledge that this was his hometown.
Someone else shared on Facebook: “I am speechless. 17 is so young. I have many happy memories of him and my daughter as babies, going on dinner dates and growing up together through school plays and birthday parties.”
“To hear this has blown my mind. Thinking of all the kids that knew him and that will be affected by this news. It is time to come together! RIP Harleigh at least you are reunited with your mum.”
Chief Superintendent Richard Fisher of Wolverhampton Police provided an update on the “tragic loss of a young life” on Friday.
He stated: “We are determined to bring the perpetrators of this knife crime to justice as another young life has been lost tragically. We are constantly updating Harleigh’s family in regards to this investigation, and our hearts go out to them during this difficult time.”
We are grateful to the individuals residing in West Park, Wolverhampton for providing us with valuable information following the unfortunate event.
“Anyone who has not already spoken to us but thinks they can assist, please reach out to us.”
