British Vogue recently released its inaugural edition under the leadership of new editor Chioma Nnadi, featuring FKA Twigs as the cover star.
Photographer Johnny Dufort, who is making his debut for BritishVogue, captured musician, dancer, and model Twigs on the cover as she sits on top of a black taxi, effortlessly rocking a buttercream Loewe dress. The outfit is topped off with a bib and large pin on her chest.
This is the maiden edition of the magazine following the departure of Edward Enninful, who served as Editor-in-Chief for six and a half years. He has now taken on a new position as Conde Nast’s global creative and cultural advisor.

Upon Enninful’s announcement of his departure, speculation arose that there was a conflict between Enninful and Anna Wintour. Wintour is the Editor-In-Chief of American Vogue and the chief content officer at Condé Nast.
According to a former editor at British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, who wrote in The Mail Plus, even though Enninful had significant global impact, he was constantly overshadowed by Anna Wintour in the company.
The news was announced that Nnadi, who previously served as editor for vogue.com, will now be taking on Enninful’s role.
Nnadi exchanged residing in New York for her birthplace in London to assume her new position. In her Editor’s Letter, she expressed her desire for the first edition under her leadership to feature “someone who embodies that unique essence.”
Thankfully, she expressed that it was a straightforward decision regarding the “Cellophane” performer.
FKA Twigs embodies the concept of the contemporary British eccentric – she is a chameleon who defies conformity and finds true happiness in fashion.
She emphasized that [fashion] extends beyond the runway and can be discovered in various locations, such as a rave or in our daily lives at home.
For this article, Twigs is photographed standing next to a lamppost in central London, as well as inside a red telephone booth and on an escalator in a London underground station.
British Vogue’s April issue has generated the highest print revenue in its history, according to its publisher Condé Nast.
Upon joining Vogue in 2017, Enninful handpicked model Adwoa Aboah to grace the cover. The photo, reminiscent of the 1960s, was captured by Stephen Meisel and featured Aboah donning a headwrap from Marc Jacobs’s Spring 2018 line and bold peacock blue eyeshadow.
In 2017, Enninful broke barriers by becoming the first gay black man to serve as editor of the magazine. He received praise for promoting diversity and inclusivity within the publication and challenging the traditional notion of a British Vogue cover model.
The last edition highlighted 40 influential women from music, TV, film, and fashion, such as Miley Cyrus, Jane Fonda, and Maya Jama.
At the center of the image was Oprah Winfrey, seated with tennis player Serena Williams and former Spice Girl now fashion designer Victoria Beckham.
The April edition of British Vogue can be downloaded digitally or purchased at newsstands starting on Tuesday, March 19th.
