On Monday evening, a video captured an Air Canada plane making a rough landing at Toronto Pearson Airport in Ontario, Canada due to strong crosswinds affecting the runway.
A video captured Flight AC2, which had just arrived from Tokyo on November 13, having difficulty landing on runway 24L at the largest airport in Toronto.
A video posted by Wake Turbulence Aviation showcases the Air Canada Boeing 777-300ER experiencing severe turbulence, causing it to sway back and forth and bounce upon landing. Smoke can be seen emanating from the landing gear on the runway.
The pilot skillfully managed the situation and maintained control of the aircraft, preventing a crash landing on the runway after a 12-hour flight.
The footage was originally posted to YouTube by Michael, the creator of an aviation channel. In the caption, he described the intense moment caused by heavy gusts and praised the pilot’s skill for preventing a potential accident.
In the footage, the individual recording can be heard exclaiming, “Wow! Please go around,” in regards to when pilots choose to take off again and then attempt another landing in challenging circumstances. However, the aircraft is observed steadying itself after a bumpy start and successfully completes the landing.
According to a representative from Air Canada who spoke to blogTo, a Toronto-based news outlet, the flight from Narita encountered strong winds upon arrival at Toronto Pearson airport, resulting in a rough landing.
“After safely arriving at the gate, the Boeing 777 aircraft underwent a full inspection as a precautionary measure before being taken out of service,” stated the airline.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the 373 passengers on board during the incident.
The video has received 88,000 views since it was uploaded, and aviation enthusiasts were stunned by the bumpy landing.
A person who commented, claiming to have been a passenger on the plane, stated: “Upon landing, I heard a loud impact, the plane’s body jolted abruptly, and it felt as though my heart was forcefully expelled.”
Another person commented, “Wow, that was intense. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must have been for the passengers and flight crew. I hope everyone was properly secured.”
The Independent has reached out to Air Canada for additional statement.
