Antoine Semenyo netted two goals as Bournemouth delivered an impressive performance in the second half, bouncing back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Luton 4-3.
During an evening that included Tom Lockyer returning to the Vitality Stadium to express his gratitude towards the medical team who had aided in saving his life 88 days ago, the game was called off due to the Luton captain suffering a cardiac arrest. The home team’s energetic performance greatly affected the Luton team’s chances of avoiding relegation.
Luton had a strong start and went into half-time with a three-goal advantage, but Andoni Iraola’s team put on a thrilling performance in the second half.
The team scored first in the ninth minute when Jordan Clark delivered a beautiful cross for Tahith Chong to head into the goal from the far post.
Bournemouth quickly looked for a reaction and had opportunities to score from Ryan Christie and Luis Sinisterra, but Thomas Kaminski denied their attempts.
Iraola’s team was down two goals against last place Sheffield United during the weekend, but managed to make a comeback and secure a point in extra time.
The situation was reminiscent when Luton scored a fantastic second goal at the 31st minute.
Following a sharp combination between Chong and Alfie Doughty, the latter delivered a low cross to Chiedozie Ogbene, who completed a fantastic team play.
Edwards must surely have thought his team had sealed their third away win of the season when Issa Kabore drove upfield to pick out the excellent Ross Barkley, who powerfully fired the ball high into the net to give the Hatters a considerable cushion going into the break.
However, following two replacements during the break, Bournemouth made a striking comeback, netting three goals within 14 minutes at the beginning of the second half.
Dominic Solanke, the leading scorer for the Cherries, displayed a remarkable moment of solo talent in the first play. He deftly back-heeled the ball between Daiki Hashioka’s legs before skillfully chipping it past Kaminski.
Luton was unable to successfully clear Lewis Cook’s corner, which resulted in Illia Zabarnyi heading the ball in from close range. Despite Doughty’s efforts to prevent the goal, it still crossed the line.
After two minutes, the atmosphere at the Vitality Stadium became electric as Semenyo made a sharp turn from the right and blasted his shot towards the near post to even out the score.
Semenyo delivered another goal for Bournemouth, securing victory with a powerful shot across Kaminski after receiving a pass from Enes Unal. This marked the Cherries’ first home win since Boxing Day and earned them all three points.
