In summary: This hotel, run by a family, has a five-star rating and is located in the heart of Val Gardena. It features a standout spa and offers impressive views of the surrounding mountains.
Ortisei is an almost picture-perfect Italian mountain town nestled in the Val Gardena valley, surrounded by the striking mountain landscape of the Dolomites. The most popular among tourists of Val Gardena’s three towns (the others being Santa Cristina and Selva Val Gardena), Ortisei is a bustling ski resort in the winter, with links to the Sella Ronda circuit and access to a huge ski area that’s popular among intermediate and experienced skiers.
During the off-season for skiing, the atmosphere is more peaceful but equally as stunning. In the spring, wild flowers can be found scattered throughout the meadows, while autumn brings a golden hue to the mountains. The alpine pastures are transformed into a hub for outdoor activities during the summer months. Situated in the heart of Ortisei, Gardena Grödnerhof allows guests to conveniently access the abundance of shops, bars, and restaurants. It is also within close proximity to the slopes in the winter and provides easy access to the mountains for hiking, mountain biking, and other summer adventures.
The main focus of Gardena Grödnerhof is on providing a relaxing wellness experience, which is evident through its standout feature – the spa. This theme is carried throughout the hotel, which is spacious and tastefully decorated in a modern and luxurious alpine style. Despite being fully booked, the hotel never feels overcrowded or overly touristy. While it has mostly been popular among Italian guests, it appears to be attracting a more diverse crowd now.

The service
The majority of hotels in the valley, including Gardena Grödnerhof, are family-owned and this is evident in their service. The staff are friendly and approachable, without being too imposing. Upon arrival, you will receive a welcome drink and the front desk will assist you with information about the hotel’s amenities and activities, as well as make arrangements for reservations, transfers, or outings.
Bed and bath
The rooms at Gardena Grödnerhof, even the smallest ones, are surprisingly spacious, which is uncommon for mountain hotels. The decor is elegant, featuring traditional mountain design with a neutral color scheme and plenty of wooden accents. Each room has been meticulously designed and the balconies offer stunning views of Ortisei and the surrounding mountains.
Food and drink
If you’re planning to dine at Gardena Grödnerhof, it is highly recommended that you book ahead and get a reservation at the Michelin-starred Anna Stuben. Both food and wine are exceptional, and the service and ambiance flawless. There are just 12 tables in this intimate, wood-panelled nook, served by friendly staff and a very knowledgeable sommelier.
The lunch and dinner options at Gardena Restaurant are diverse, with vegetarian choices included. The food quality is excellent, but the atmosphere may seem a bit subdued and formal due to the spacious setting. The breakfast spread is extensive and typically Italian, with the option to order from a menu as well.
Facilities
The amenities at Gardena Grödnerhof are difficult to criticize. In addition to the dining options, there is a cozy lounge area that serves food, and a bar with an impressive variety of wine, beer, and cocktails. However, the highlight of Gardena Grödnerhof is its spa. It boasts steam baths, saunas, comfortable lounges, treatment rooms, and even a spa exclusively for women. The pool is spacious and features underwater music in a beautifully illuminated setting. It provides the ultimate relaxation experience and is tastefully designed. The views from the outdoor hot tubs, overlooking the mountains, are truly awe-inspiring.
Accessible bedrooms are available on the first floor for individuals with disabilities.
Only service animals are allowed according to our pet policy.
The check-in time is at 3pm and the check-out time is at 12 noon.
Is this hotel suitable for families? Absolutely. With 20 adjoining Superior rooms and 10 roomy two-bedroom chalet suites, it is the perfect choice for families.
At a glance
The spa is the highlight of this experience. From the luxurious pool to the well-appointed treatment rooms, everything is top-notch.
The Anna Stuben Restaurant stands out as a unique dining experience, but the Gardena Restaurant may not have the same ambiance and can feel too formal.
Ideal for: A dynamic yet tranquil vacation with a hint of luxury.
Not suitable for: A leisurely stay. The surroundings are too beautiful to not make the most of them.
