A recent poll shows that among registered voters, Joe Biden is currently ahead of Donald Trump by six percentage points, with 50% in favor of Biden and 44% in favor of Trump. This marks an increase from December, when Biden held a one-point lead.
According to the Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday, the current president’s support among female voters has increased, with 58 percent in favor compared to his predecessor’s 36 percent. In December, Mr. Biden’s lead among women was 53 percent to 41 percent.
According to Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy, the gender breakdown has shifted in recent weeks, with a surge in support from female voters. This has resulted in a slight lead for Biden over Trump in the head-to-head race.
On December 20, a poll for the 2024 general election was released, showing that Mr. Biden was leading with 47% compared to 46% for his opponent. The results were deemed too close to determine a clear winner.
The level of political loyalty remains high, with 96 percent of Democrats supporting Mr. Biden and only two percent supporting Mr. Trump. On the other hand, 91 percent of Republicans support the previous president while seven percent support his replacement. Among those who identify as independent, Mr. Biden is leading with 52 percent compared to Mr. Trump’s 40 percent.
A total of 1,650 individuals who identified themselves as registered voters were surveyed between January 25 and 29.
The gap between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump among female voters has grown, following a ruling that ordered Mr. Trump to pay $83.3 million in damages to writer E Jean Carroll in their second defamation trial. This is the second time the writer has taken legal action against the former president.
In her 2019 book, Ms Carroll claimed that Mr Trump raped her in a dressing room at a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s. Mr Trump vehemently denied the accusations and consistently verbally attacked Ms Carroll.
During the first trial for defamation, it was determined that Mr. Trump was responsible for sexual misconduct. Judge Kaplan declared that the ruling from the initial jury would also be applicable to the second trial for defamation, which concluded last week. This meant that the second jury only had to determine the amount of damages to be awarded.
Among male voters, 53% favor Mr. Trump while 42% prefer Mr. Biden. These numbers have slightly increased from December when they were 51% for Mr. Trump and 41% for Mr. Biden.
According to a recent poll, in a hypothetical race with candidates not affiliated with the two major parties, Mr Biden would receive 39 percent of the votes, Mr Trump would receive 37 percent, Robert F Kennedy Jr, formerly a Democrat but now running as an independent, would receive 14 percent, Cornel West, an independent candidate, would receive three percent, and Jill Stein of the Green Party would receive two percent.
In the meantime, the survey shows that Nikki Haley, Mr. Trump’s sole remaining opponent for the Republican nomination, would beat Mr. Biden by five points in a potential matchup, with a score of 47 to 42 percent.
In the Republican primary, the survey shows that Mr. Trump has 77% support, while Ms. Haley has 21% support. On the Democratic side, Mr. Biden is in the lead with 78% support, followed by author Marianne Williamson with 11% and Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips with 6%.
In June of last year, Mr. Biden received the highest approval rating, however, the majority of voters still have a negative view of him – 41% approve and 55% disapprove.
42% of people approve of how he has managed the economy, while 57% disapprove.
According to Mr. Malloy, as concerns about inflation decrease and the intense campaign intensifies, President Biden is experiencing a slight increase in confidence regarding his management of the economy.
In regards to the situation of Russia invading Ukraine, 47 percent approve of Mr. Biden’s handling, while 46 percent disapprove.

34% of people approve of how Mr. Biden is handling the conflict in Gaza, while 56% do not approve. Additionally, 28% approve of his actions regarding the border, but 63% do not.
Following an attack in Jordan that resulted in the death of three American soldiers, 84 percent of voters express concern about the potential for the US to become involved in a conflict in the Middle East.
“Are tensions escalating in the Middle East? With American soldiers facing danger from terrorist groups, the scope of the conflict is expanding, causing growing worry among the majority of voters,” stated Mr. Malloy.
The voters who participated in the survey were presented with a selection of 10 topics and were asked to identify the one that they believed was the most crucial for the nation. Out of the options, 24 percent chose safeguarding democracy, 20 percent selected the economy, and another 20 percent prioritized immigration.
The divide among the two parties continues to widen. 12% of Republicans and 39% of Democrats consider democracy as their main concern, while 38% of Republicans prioritize immigration. Democrats, on the other hand, have only the economy (12%) and democracy (10%) as their top two issues.
Among independents, 23 per cent said preserving democracy was the most important, 19 per cent said immigration, while 18 per cent said the economy was the most important.
