A recently released report from the Department of Justice states that the Uvalde police did not act urgently while responding to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in 2022. Their mistakes in tactics resulted in loss of lives.
On May 24th, 2022, an individual entered Robb Elementary School with a firearm and fatally shot 21 individuals, consisting of 19 students and two adults.
Despite arriving at the scene within three minutes of the first shots being fired, it took the police over an hour to confront the gunman.
On Thursday, the Department of Justice released a report investigating the shooting. The report concluded that the Uvalde police made a series of mistakes, potentially resulting in the loss of innocent lives. It also stated that the Uvalde police did not act quickly in setting up a command center and did not fulfill their duty to respond to the attack promptly and effectively.
According to the report from the DOJ, the handling of the mass casualty incident at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022 was deemed unsuccessful.
According to the DOJ report, the Uvalde police made a critical error by not identifying the gunman as an active shooter and instead treating him as a barricaded suspect.
