In addition to the recent chaos in air travel, a passenger on an Air Canada flight fell onto the runway when they opened the plane’s door while boarding.
On January 8, Air Canada informed Global News that a passenger opened a cabin door on the opposite side of the plane while boarding, instead of going to their assigned seat. This occurred while the aircraft was parked at the gate and the passenger had boarded in a normal manner.
According to the airline’s flight tracker, the flight from Toronto to Dubai was supposed to depart but was delayed for six hours due to an incident.
According to Global News, Peel Regional Police reported that the individual in question was experiencing a mental health emergency. The person sustained minor injuries after falling onto the airport runway, according to authorities.
The airline confirmed that they followed all of their approved procedures for boarding and operating in the cabin.

The airline has been in the news frequently in the past few months due to a range of occurrences and controversies.
In the previous month, Air Canada received a significant penalty of C$97,500 due to a disabled passenger being forced to self-transport off a plane as the airline failed to offer wheelchair aid.
Several months ago, there was a controversial incident involving Air Canada where passengers were reportedly removed from a plane due to being seated in seats that were covered in vomit. The airline issued an apology and acknowledged that the affected passengers did not receive the expected level of care.
Recently, there has been a lot of news surrounding air travel. In the previous week, a door plug on a Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft belonging to Alaska Airlines malfunctioned during takeoff. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
