A male individual was fatally struck by a van during a night out in Derbyshire and has been remembered as a “good-natured” person.
At 2am on Saturday, December 16th, Samuel Wilson, who is 26 years old, was hit along with two other males at Market Place in Ilkeston.
The paramedics attended to him, but he was declared deceased at the location. Two other males were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries and are currently recuperating at their residences.
A person who is 27 years old was taken into police custody by Derbyshire Police due to suspicion of committing murder. As of Sunday evening, they are still in custody.
On a fundraising page on JustGiving, Mr. Wilson’s sister expressed that there are no words to convey the depth of their family’s grief. The page has collected over £7,000.
She expressed that our hearts will always be shattered and it is impossible to put into words the immense void it has created in each of our hearts.
Mr Wilson, a keen footballer, played for local Sunday league side Curzon Football Club and won player of the season last year. He was on a night out with teammates when the tragedy happened.
The team, part of the Euro Soccer Long Eaton Sunday League, released a statement expressing their loss: “We are not just grieving the loss of a player, but also a friend, brother, son, and boyfriend. He was truly one of life’s best people and will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
“We all have a deep affection for you, Sam, and we will surely feel your absence. As we wait for our next encounter, may you continue to watch over us with that contagious smile. We love you, my friend, from everyone at Afc curzon.”
Investigators stated that the family of Mr. Wilson has requested privacy as they cope with their bereavement.
Matt Croome, the detective chief inspector from Derbyshire Constabulary overseeing the case, stated that a group of officers are currently working to piece together the events of the evening. This includes analyzing CCTV footage from the Market Place area.
I want to express my gratitude to all those who have stepped forward and shared information with us as part of our investigations thus far.
We are specifically interested in receiving reports or information from individuals who may have seen or have knowledge about a disturbance at the Market Inn just prior to the event.
“Any information you possess could be crucial to our inquiry.”
There was a significant crime scene established following the accident, but it was reopened on Saturday evening. Police are still monitoring the area and detectives are encouraging anyone with concerns to come forward and speak with them.
