A referee was struck in the face and subjected to multiple kicks to the head after a last-minute tie.
The unpleasant events occurred following the Turkish Süper Lig match between Ankaragucu and Rizespor in Ankara on Monday evening (December 11th).
The president of Ankaragucu, Faruk Koca, angrily charged onto the field and struck referee Halil Umut Meler in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.
Shortly after, a large fight broke out and resulted in Mr Umut Meler getting kicked in the head.
Turkey’s Minister of Justice, Yilmaz Tunc, stated that a legal inquiry has been initiated against those accountable for the attack.
According to Mr. Tunc, the Ankara Police Department has been assigned to determine the suspects.
