Mauricio Pochettino thinks that Chelsea should make more changes during the January transfer window in order to improve their current situation. Currently, they are in 12th place in the standings and far from qualifying for the Champions League.
Their seventh defeat in the Premier League this season came from a 2-0 loss at Everton. It seems almost impossible for them to close the 14-point gap to Manchester City in fourth place, as their lack of scoring and inconsistency continues to be a problem.
Chelsea have invested more than £1 billion in the past three transfer periods, but a significant portion of those transactions occurred before Pochettino’s arrival this summer. He now desires to bring in his own players to jumpstart his efforts to revitalize Stamford Bridge.
“We must win this game. It is a matter that requires our attention. We should discuss and strive to improve in the upcoming transfer market,” stated the speaker.
“We are addressing this issue. After a period of five months, equivalent to the first half of the season, it is necessary for us to assess the situation. If we are not assertive enough on the field, we may need to take action.”
When asked about the upcoming transfer window, he mentioned that there may be some changes. He plans to discuss with the sporting director and owner to determine how we can improve the second half of the season.
Our current situation is average, and if we want to improve, we need to challenge ourselves. When the transfer window becomes available, we will assess our options.
I am not implying that I will request for more or fewer players, but rather to assess if the perception aligns with reality.
If our perception is at one point on a line and reality is at another point, there may be something missing in between. This can serve as a helpful reality check.
This is a newly launched project with a team facing numerous challenges. Unfortunately, we have been met with various problems since the start of the season.
“It can be challenging to create something new, which is why it is important to be resilient when evaluating and making intelligent decisions in order to enhance our performance in the latter half of the season. This will make us more competitive and achieve the results that a prestigious club like Chelsea deserves.”
Pochettino’s team dominated possession with a 72% share and attempted 16 shots, but only managed to get four on target. In comparison, Everton had five shots on target out of nine attempts.
Although they controlled most of the game, the away team did not pose a significant threat to Jordan Pickford. Everton secured their third victory in a little over a week with goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and substitute Lewis Dobbin, who scored his first goal in the Premier League.
To be successful in a game and improve our ranking, we must score. Despite playing against a tough team like Everton and dominating the game, we were unable to secure a win. Pochettino also mentioned that he lost three players to injuries – full-backs Reece James and Marc Cucurella, and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Sean Dyche, the manager of Everton, did not argue with Pochettino’s evaluation. However, he took pleasure in how his team kept their opponents at a distance and capitalized on their chances.
He stated that the team is undoubtedly very skilled and even better in certain aspects. They possess strong ball control, talented players, and have made significant investments in their team. Additionally, he acknowledged the expertise of their manager, so I would not question his viewpoint.
“It is very satisfying to discover a different approach to defeating a team like Chelsea, and underlying this achievement is a strong mindset that continues to develop.”
