Reword: The Canaries are calling with their winter sunshine, crystal clear waters ideal for watersports, and gentle winds. Lanzarote’s golden beaches along the coast are the perfect destination for a beach vacation.
The natural colors of black, red, and gold can be seen in the grain of sand found in both volcanic and man-made beaches. These beaches line popular coastal destinations from the north to the south.
There are more than 100 beaches available for swimming in the popular British vacation destination, offering numerous opportunities to relax under a parasol or wade in the mild Atlantic Ocean.
Some of Spain’s best sands wrap the southernmost tip of the laid-back Los Ajaches Natural Park, world-class waves batter Famara with surf in the north and the island capital Arrecife is blessed with a Blue Flag quality coastline.
Whether staying all-in by the white swathes of Playa Blanca or finding paradise on the island’s little sister, La Graciosa, here are the best playas to lay your towel in Lanzarote.

Papagayo Beaches, Los Ajaches National Park
Praised as the main attraction of Lanzarote’s coast, the beautiful Papagayo beaches are located on the southernmost end of Los Ajaches Natural Park. To access this paradise, follow the dirt road and pay a €3 fee. This popular cove, surrounded by cliffs, is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a good book. The calm waters and abundant marine life also make it an ideal spot for swimming and snorkeling. And don’t worry about sandy sandwiches; the Be Papagayo restaurant, situated on a cliff, serves delicious seafood paella and tapas platters.
Playa de Famara, Teguise
The north coast is the place to be for surfing, with 6km of unspoiled shoreline at Playa de Famara. The strong winds create reliable waves and breaks in this part of the Natural Park of the Chinijo Archipelago, making Famara’s smooth sands a paradise for surfers of all kinds. The nearby fishing village of La Caleta de Famara is a great spot to replenish with fresh fish after a day on the water, and there are plenty of surf shops and schools available to help you improve your skills from beginner to pro.
Charco de Los Clicos, El Golfo
On the western coast of Lanzarote, the dark sands of El Golfo come together with a lagoon filled with green algae and cliffs in shades of rust. This creates a striking landscape of opposing elements. Charco de Los Clicos, a protected area, is located on the crater of an extinct volcano. While swimming is not allowed in this nature reserve, there is a lookout point where visitors can observe the dark tombolo being battered by the powerful waves of the wild Atlantic, with its waters ranging from green to blue.
Dorada Beach, White Beach
With clear, warm waters and clean, fine sand, Playa Dorada sparkles afront the family-centric all-inclusives and sprawling holiday resorts of Playa Blanca. Peppered with plenty of blue parasols, pedalos and kayaks to hire, the 300m artificial bay is best enjoyed during Lanzarote’s mild shoulder seasons to avoid the buzz of the summer holidays.
Playa Mujeres, Los Ajaches Natural Park
On top of Papagayo beaches, there is a secluded area called Mujeres that can be reached by a dirt road, away from the busy and commercialized Playa Blanca. The backdrop of the barren deserts of Lanzarote creates a beautiful contrast with the inviting shades of blue that adorn the wide shore. Snorkeling here is a popular activity as visitors can spot octopi and angel sharks floating in the water.
Reducto Beach, Arrecife
Located in the relaxed island capital of Arrecife, the golden beaches and clear blue waters of Playa del Reducto have been recognized with a Blue Flag status. A scenic promenade lined with palm trees, trendy boutiques, and modern art museums runs along the urban crescent. The shallow waters, perfect for children to play in, are also great for lounging with a refreshing mojito or mocktail in hand.
Conchas Beach, La Graciosa Island
Even though it is an island, La Graciosa has a rugged northern coast that has many beautiful white beaches that outshine the ones on mainland Spain. You can take a short ferry ride from Orzola in Lanzarote to the dunes of Las Conchas, a beach with only rocks and debris, for a day trip. It is definitely worth it to enjoy the uninterrupted sandy paradise.
