The long-awaited romantic comedy drama One Day is now available on Netflix.
The latest version of the popular 2009 book by David Nicholls, also titled “One Day,” features Leo Woodall (known for “The White Lotus”) and Ambika Mod (from “This is Going to Hurt”) as the main characters, Dexter and Emma, who are destined for each other.
The story unfolds over 14 episodes, starting on July 15, 1988. Each subsequent episode occurs one year later, allowing viewers to witness the characters’ growth and diverging paths in life.
The filming locations for this project include Rome, Greece, London, and Edinburgh, offering a variety of scenes that will spark your desire to travel.
Where was the filming location of One Day?
The filming of One Day occurred at various locations across the UK and Europe.
The initial installment shows the introduction of Emma and Dexter at a college graduation celebration in Edinburgh.
The Old College, a building belonging to the University of Edinburgh, served as the filming location for the scenes. It was constructed in the late 18th to early 19th century.
Once they became more familiar with each other, the duo proceeded to climb up the scenic inactive volcano and famous Scottish landmark known as Arthur’s Seat.
In the last scene of the first episode, we witness Dexter running after Emma to retrieve her phone. This scene was captured on the Vennel Steps, a picturesque and historically significant alley located near the Grassmarket, offering a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle.

In the second episode, Dexter goes on vacation to Rome and reunites with his parents. We see him admiring the impressive Fontana dell’Acqua Paola from the 17th century, strolling through the parks and dining at the restaurants in the Trastevere neighborhood, and reuniting with his mother at the Spanish Steps.
The hotel featured in Dexter’s meeting with his mother, offering a magnificent view of the Rome skyline, was reportedly a combination of two hotels near Piazza Navona, as stated by Condé Nast Traveller. The Bio Hotel Raphaël on Largo Febo provided the terrace location, while the Campo de’ Fiori on via del Biscione served as the entrance for Dexter’s farewell.
The island of Paros in Greece is where the young couple spend their vacation together. In the fourth episode, we get a glimpse of the charming fishing village of Naousa, located in the northern part of the island. We also see some of the island’s beaches, along with the quaint cobbled streets, historic churches, and traditional blue and white architecture of Parikia.

According to Hammersmith Today, the filming location for Loco Caliente, the Mexican restaurant where Emma and Ian are employed, was Old Suffolk Punch, one of Hammersmith’s oldest pubs. The pub is set to be demolished to make way for a new pub and hotel with 40 bedrooms.
In the ninth episode, Dexter faces challenges while staying at his new girlfriend’s wealthy parents’ home in Hertfordshire.
The shooting occurred at Benington Lordship, located near Stevenage in Hertfordshire. This peaceful garden park is celebrated for its lush countryside views, historic castle remains, and modern sculptures. It is a well-liked spot during February for its blooming snowdrops, and hosts the annual Benington Chilli Festival in August.
One Day used Hatfield House in Hertfordshire as a filming spot. The historic Old Palace hosted the reception after Tilly’s wedding, where Emma delivered a speech.
Later, the two go for a walk through the Lime Walk in the West Garden of Hatfield House.
The Jacobean House, constructed in 1611, served as a set for various productions such as The Favourite, Paddington 2, Bridgerton, and the spin-off series Queen Charlotte.
In the 12th episode, Dexter travels to Paris to see Emma, who has relocated to the city for a research trip.
They walk together on Rue Pierre Semard, then pause to converse on Passerelle Emmanuelle Riva, a metal bridge over Canal St Martin, a converted waterway now home to popular dining and drinking establishments.
