The long-awaited romantic comedy series One Day has been released on Netflix.
The recently released version of David Nicholls’ popular book from 2009, also titled “One Day,” features Leo Woodall (known for “The White Lotus”) and Ambika Mod (from “This is Going to Hurt”) as the ill-fated couple, Dexter and Emma.
The series consists of 14 episodes, starting with the initial scene on July 15, 1988. Each subsequent episode occurs exactly one year after the previous, allowing viewers to witness the characters’ growth and diverging journeys in life.
The movie features scenes filmed in Rome, Greece, London, and Edinburgh, offering plenty of opportunities to spark your desire to travel.
In what location was the film One Day shot?
The filming of One Day occurred in various locations across the United Kingdom and Europe.
In the initial installment, we witness Emma and Dexter’s initial encounter at a college commencement celebration in Edinburgh.
The filming took place in the courtyard of The Old College, a building belonging to the University of Edinburgh that dates back to the late 1700s and early 1800s.
After becoming more familiar, the two individuals climb up the scenic dormant volcano and notable Scottish landmark known as Arthur’s Seat.
In the concluding scene of the first episode, Dexter pursues Emma to retrieve her phone. This scene was shot on the Vennel Steps, a charming and historically significant alleyway located near the Grassmarket. The location offers a breathtaking view of Edinburgh Castle.

Dexter’s second episode takes place during his vacation in Rome, where he reunites with his parents. Viewers observe him standing in front of the grand Fontana dell’Acqua Paola from the 17th century, strolling through the lush surroundings and dining at restaurants in the Trastevere neighborhood, and encountering his mother at the Spanish Steps.
As reported by Condé Nast Traveller, the hotel where Dexter reunites with his mother and enjoys a breathtaking view of the Rome skyline was actually a combination of two hotels near Piazza Navona. The Bio Hotel Raphaël on Largo Febo provided the terrace location, while the Campo de’ Fiori on via del Biscione served as the entrance where Dexter bids farewell.
The island of Paros, located in Greece, is where the young couple spends their vacation. In the fourth episode, we are shown the harbor of Naousa, a charming fishing village situated in the northern part of the island. Additionally, we get a glimpse of some of the island’s beaches, as well as the quaint narrow streets, historical churches, and traditional blue and white architecture of the town of Parikia.

In London, the filming sites were at the exceptional Savoy Hotel, Primrose Hill, and King’s Cross Station.
Emma and Ian are employed at Loco Caliente, a Mexican eatery that was featured as Old Suffolk Punch, one of Hammersmith’s longest-running pubs. According to Hammersmith Today, the pub is set to be demolished in order to make way for a new pub and hotel with 40 rooms.
In the ninth episode, Dexter faces challenges while staying at his girlfriend’s wealthy parents’ estate in Hertfordshire.
The filming location was Benington Lordship, located near Stevenage in the county of Hertfordshire. This peaceful garden park is renowned for its lush countryside scenery, castle ruins, and modern sculptures. It is a well-liked spot in February for its display of snowdrops, and hosts the annual Benington Chilli Festival every August.
One Day utilized Hatfield House in Hertfordshire as a filming location. The wedding reception of Tilly, where Emma delivers a speech, was held in the Old Palace, a historic venue.
The duo then proceed to walk along the Lime Walk in the West Garden of Hatfield House.
Constructed in 1611, the Jacobean House has served as a set for multiple productions including The Favourite, Paddington 2, Bridgerton, and the spin-off series Queen Charlotte.
In the 12th episode, Dexter travels to Paris to see Emma, who has relocated to the city for a research trip.
The duo takes a leisurely walk on Rue Pierre Semard and then pauses to converse on Passerelle Emmanuelle Riva, a metal bridge spanning Canal St Martin. This canal, once used for industrial purposes, is now dotted with fashionable eateries and bars.
Do you desire a luxurious French experience? According to The Independent’s critic, Le Bourg Tibourg is the most charming hotel in the city. They described it as full of fanciful extravagance, with chandeliers, vintage furnishings, and plush fabrics and wallpapers in rich shades of red, with touches of purple, green, and grey.
Is it possible for me to tour the filming sites featured in the movie One Day?
Except for the Old Suffolk Punch, yes, Hatfield House and Gardens are closed for the season. They will reopen on May 23.
