Vincent Kompany stated that Burnley’s efforts were not being recognized with the results they deserve, as they suffered their sixth consecutive home loss of the Premier League season, falling 2-0 to Crystal Palace at Turf Moor.
Jordan Beyer’s error led to Jeffrey Schlupp scoring for Palace in the 22nd minute. Despite having possession and taking 16 shots compared to Palace’s four, Burnley was unable to score an equalizer before Tyrick Mitchell extended the visitors’ lead in stoppage time.
Burnley has moved up from the bottom of the table solely based on goal difference after completing a third of their home games without any wins.
Burnley experienced relegation in the 2021-22 season and lost eight home games. However, they may potentially match or surpass that number before Christmas this year.
Kompany expressed the difficulty of the situation where he wanted to acknowledge the mistake that cost them, while also not wanting to diminish the players’ confidence.
The team has put in a lot of effort in every game, including today. They have worked tirelessly behind the scenes and their hard work is reflected in their performance. However, in order to achieve the reward of winning, they must continue to persevere.
When asked about his concern for the home record, Kompany stated that his team’s issues go beyond just playing at Turf Moor.
According to him, having four points means we have both a home and away form. However, it would be incorrect to claim that our away form is exceptional solely based on those four points. It is a challenging task.
“I have previously mentioned that even in our home games, we cannot assume that it will be an easy match. Although our performance was good, the end result was not.”
I will not stray from ensuring that we stick to our plan and are prepared to get the most out of our team.
The team from Kompany’s side had a successful promotion last season, only losing once at Turf Moor. They impressed in the Championship with their possession-focused attacking style.
To say that translating that into the Premier League has been difficult would be an understatement, but Kompany is full of belief that his side can turn things around.
“I do not typically allow myself to be easily pushed around on the field,” he stated. “As a manager, it is important to have a clear vision, regardless of what that may be. Anybody who believes that style alone guarantees success is mistaken.”
“The key to success lies in effective coaching and continual improvement of players. This does not necessarily mean acquiring better players, but rather helping current players improve or having the best players on the team. These are the building blocks for success.”
Good finances are often the solution to some of these issues. They play a crucial role in determining outcomes more so than any other factor.
Although Burnley did not achieve the desired outcome, Palace manager Roy Hodgson was impressed by their performance and believes that Kompany’s team will bounce back.
“He mentioned that Burnley performed well, which was expected as we had been studying them during our preparations. The quality of their gameplay was also not a surprise to us.”
”
I believed their defense was exceptional and hindered us from fully capitalizing on our ball possession. However, the positive aspect is that we maintained our formation and continued to put in effort during that time.
“There aren’t going to be too many teams who get away from here with three points, I can tell you that now, not if Burnley keep playing the way they are playing.
“We must be pleased with our self-control, perseverance, and the hard work that ultimately earned us three points.”
“We will leave London with joy, and I am confident that Burnley will feel disappointed that they didn’t receive more recognition for their performance. However, if they continue to play at this level, they will surely achieve success.”
