According to his agent, Mohamed Salah’s hamstring injury is more severe than originally believed and may sideline him for up to four weeks.
This indicates that Liverpool will not be able to have their leading scorer in their upcoming matches against Chelsea and Arsenal next week, potentially causing him to be absent for the following six games.
It is likely that Salah’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations will end, unless Egypt can manage to advance to the final on February 11th without their captain, who may need time to recover after their match against Cape Verde on Monday.
The 31-year-old sustained an injury during the 2-2 match against Ghana on Thursday and has been declared unfit to play in his team’s next two games.
However, Salah’s representative Ramy Abbas posted on Twitter: “Mohammed’s injury is more severe than initially believed and he will be sidelined for 21-28 days, rather than just missing 2 games. The best chance for him to participate in the current AFCON is to undergo intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoin the team once he is fully recovered.”
On Sunday, Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp stated that Salah would travel to England for medical care and may potentially return to Africa if he recovers and Egypt advances.
The German individual stated: “Regardless of the length of his absence, it is logical for him to undergo rehabilitation with us or our personnel. I am unsure if this has already been confirmed.”
“If Egypt is able to make it to the final and he is healthy by then, it’s likely that he will return to play. Why wouldn’t he? It’s quite straightforward.”
After Salah’s departure for the Cup of Nations, Liverpool has been victorious in all three matches. Fellow forwards Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota both scored two goals each in their recent game against Bournemouth. Despite this, Salah has an impressive record of 18 goals and nine assists in 27 games for the Merseyside club this season.
