The Football Association has charged Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder for his unusual outburst regarding a linesman who was eating a sandwich.
Wilder was angered when one of referee Tony Harrington’s assistants was eating a sandwich while the Blades manager approached him after their 3-2 loss to Crystal Palace last month.
During a BBC Radio Sheffield interview after the game, Wilder expressed his frustration with Harrington’s performance and labeled it as a complete lack of respect, going as far as calling it ridiculous.
He exclaimed that once again, the referee’s performance was absurd.
If we continue to face tight or evenly split decisions, we will handle it throughout the rest of the season.
“I refuse to stay silent and not speak up. I have spoken to the referee and made my thoughts clear.”
I found it disrespectful when one of his assistants was eating a sandwich while speaking to a Premier League manager. Hopefully, he enjoyed his meal.
The Blades boss has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.
According to an official statement, Chris Wilder has been accused of violating FA Rule E3.1 due to his comments to the media after Sheffield United’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace on January 30th.
”
The manager’s remarks are being accused of being inappropriate because they suggest prejudice and/or undermine the integrity of the referee, or referees in general, and/or damage the reputation of the game.
“Chris Wilder must submit his response by Friday, February 16th.”
