Rashford’s performance this season has been lacking as he prepares to face Chelsea with Manchester United on Wednesday.
In this instance, we examine the decline of the forward following their impressive 30-goal performance last season.
Season of struggle
Erik ten Hag, the manager, stated that Rashford was substituted in the second half due to a disappointing performance against Newcastle. He added that Rashford puts in a lot of effort and is dedicated to the team. He will bounce back, recuperate, and has the full support of the team.
The difference in the performance of the English player this season compared to last is clearly noticeable.
Rashford has made a total of 24 appearances for both his club and country, during which he has managed to score three goals. These goals were achieved in matches against Arsenal and Everton in the Premier League, as well as for England in their game against Italy.
So far this season, he has not been able to score at Old Trafford. However, he has managed to provide three assists there, against Nottingham Forest in the league and Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Include a red card from the Champions League match against Copenhagen – only the second of Rashford’s professional career – and it is a stark contrast to this time last year when he was performing at his best.
After losing to Manchester City in a derby match, Rashford was reprimanded by his manager for attending a planned birthday celebration. He also had to address false rumors about his potential departure from the club on a United fan channel. Later in the month, he was in a car accident after a victory against Burnley, but fortunately, he was not injured.
Clear contrast
Rashford appeared 24 times in the previous season, and his last appearance was during England’s World Cup match against France on December 10.
He scored a total of 11 goals in those games, and also had three assists. This includes two goals against Arsenal in the league, two against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League, and two against Wales in Qatar. He scored four goals in the league, three in Europe, one in the Carabao Cup, and three for England.
He ended up scoring a total of 30 goals for United in various competitions, which also included a goal in the League Cup final where they were victorious over Newcastle to win the trophy.
