According to Mikel Arteta, there is no hidden formula behind Arsenal’s recent accomplishments. He commended his team after their win against Newcastle.
The Arsenal team had a comfortable 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, putting them just two points behind the top spot in the Premier League.
Sven Botman’s own goal began their journey towards victory, followed by goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Jakub Kiwior to complete another impressive performance by Arteta’s team. However, Joe Willock’s return resulted in a late header that prevented another clean sheet.
Arsenal may have laboured to a narrow 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie in Porto on Wednesday – but their domestic form has been imperious.
When questioned about the success of recent games against West Ham and Burnley, with scores of 6-0 and 5-0 respectively, and a win against Newcastle, Arteta responded by saying, “We are currently in a positive state. Our players are performing well individually, and it’s not a mystery.”
“We are in a good rhythm. Our team is scoring goals in various ways and we always strive for more. Once we score one, we aim for two, three, or even four. I appreciate the team’s ambitious mindset.”
“We prioritize training every day in order to take care of ourselves and strive for excellence. Above all, we must have belief in our ability to constantly improve. Additionally, we focus on the return of injured players.”
As we bring more players back, the team will become more competitive and have more options to make an impact in the game. It’s important for us to have confidence in our abilities to achieve this.
Jorginho made his return to the Arsenal team for the match against the Magpies and delivered an outstanding performance, earning the man-of-the-match title.
The midfielder from Italy has shown great performance in the majority of his matches this season, but was only a substitute in the game against Portugal.
Arteta also commented, “He is a highly skilled player, especially when facing opponents with specific strategies and formations. Based on my vision of the game, I knew he would make a significant contribution.”
“Subsequently, this task must be completed at this stage. Despite his inconsistent playing time, he deserves credit for his consistent and outstanding performance.”
The team from Newcastle did not perform well and has now allowed 23 goals in their last eight matches.
When questioned about the team’s recent defensive performance, manager Eddie Howe admitted that it is a worry.
“We have been actively working on various aspects, although it may not have been reflected in today’s performance.”
“We were unsuccessful in handling corners, aware of their strength in those scenarios, and the third goal added to our struggles.”
“We were the superior team and if we had scored that goal, we would have been back in the game. It was a challenging defensive moment.”
I believe we did not fully start playing until the first half. The other team kept pushing us and I expected that to continue throughout the game, but we never really broke out of that moment.
“We did not perform up to our usual standards, which is uncharacteristic of us. It is a valuable lesson to take away from this experience.”
