Marc Skinner is optimistic about the impact that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s funding for Manchester United will have on the women’s team, potentially leading to greater achievements.
Last week, Ratcliffe finalized a transaction to acquire a 27.7% share in United, giving his company Ineos control over the club’s football operations.
The women’s team of United was relaunched in 2018 and has been under Skinner’s management since 2021. Last season, they were able to secure second place in both the Women’s Super League and FA Cup. Currently, they hold the fourth spot in the WSL, 10 points behind the top-ranked Chelsea.
At a press conference on Friday, Skinner stated that he and Ratcliffe have yet to meet and that it’s something that will happen in the near future.
“However, we consistently receive guidance from our superiors regarding the direction we should take and what strategies will be effective. There is still much work to be done.”
“I view this as a very beneficial decision. As someone who is known to be enthusiastic and fully committed, I believe that the combination of my energy and the Ineos investment is a significant and favorable development.”
“We must take advantage of this opportunity and make an effort to achieve our goals. We will implement all necessary actions to do so. Hopefully, this momentum will serve as a catalyst for all of us to attain the desired success for Manchester United.”
According to Ratcliffe, it is possible that the club may construct a new stadium while using Old Trafford as the primary location for the women’s and academy teams.
Inquired about it, Skinner stated: “I believe that is still a bit in the future.”
“We thoroughly enjoy competing at Leigh Sports Village, as it has become our stronghold. However, playing at Old Trafford is always a special event.”
“We are eagerly anticipating the implementation of any plans that are put into place. It is a refreshing step forward and we must continue to channel our positivity towards this momentum. Our goal is to stay aligned with this direction.”
“If that scenario becomes reality, I am confident that there will be some excellent games held at the stadium.”
Prior to Sunday’s WSL match against West Ham, Skinner addressed the media at his pre-game press conference.
