Manchester United has appointed Omar Berrada as their new CEO after poaching him from rival club Manchester City, a bold move that showcases their determination.
United has been searching for a replacement for Richard Arnold, who departed from the club in November. Berrada seems to be the ideal choice, given his accomplishments with City Football Group, both on and off the field.
Berrada has been a part of City for almost ten years in various roles, most recently serving as the chief football operations officer. He also has extensive experience in the commercial sector.
According to the PA news agency, it is believed that Joel and Avram Glazer chose Berrada with input from Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose company Ineos has agreed to purchase a 25% share of the Premier League team.
United will announce Berrada’s start date with his new club at a later time. Patrick Stewart will remain as interim chief executive for now, according to United.
Manchester United has officially named Omar Berrada as its new CEO.
Our club is dedicated to prioritizing football and on-field performance as the focus of our efforts. Omar’s hiring marks the beginning of this mission.
”
“Omar’s extensive experience as a top executive in European football brings a wealth of knowledge in both the sporting and business aspects. With a track record of successful leadership and a drive to drive change within the club, he is a valuable addition to the team.”
He currently holds the position of chief football operations officer for City Football Group, where he manages 11 clubs spanning five continents. Previously, he also held high-level positions at Barcelona.
”
Our goal is to restore Manchester United to its former glory as a club that wins titles.
“We are delighted to have Omar on board to assist us in reaching this objective, allowing United supporters to witness the red flag proudly displayed at the top of English, European, and global football, as Sir Matt Busby envisioned.”
