Laura Muir will forego the comforts of home to ensure she is mentally prepared to secure gold at the World Indoor Championships.
On Sunday, the 30-year-old won the 3000m race at the UKA Indoor Championships in Birmingham with a time of eight minutes and 58.80 seconds.
Muir has announced her intentions to compete in the 3000m event at the upcoming World Indoors in Glasgow. The British team was revealed on Monday.
The athlete from Scotland, who resides in Glasgow, will compete at her local race course but plans to continue with her team instead of returning home during the Championships.
Muir, the champion of the 1500m and 3000m events at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019, stated that she will be staying at the team hotel. She believes it would be challenging to mentally prepare herself for competing in the final of the World Championships.
It’s preferable to not be watching the final from my couch. Therefore, I have decided to stay at the team hotel.
I didn’t fully grasp it because I wasn’t sure if I was definitely going yet. I prefer to wait until it’s certain before making any decisions, but it’s very pleasant.
“I have many cherished memories from my previous competitions at that track. Therefore, I plan to simply go there and savor the experience, as that is what matters most to me.”
Katarina Johnson-Thompson achieved a distance of 13.29m in the shot put event, earning a ninth place finish. The event was won by Amelia Campbell, as Johnson-Thompson remains focused on her preparations for the Olympics.
The current heptathlon champion is prioritizing the Paris Games this summer and will not be participating in the World Indoors.
She expressed disappointment because she participated in the European indoors in Glasgow in 2018 and has fond memories of it, with her entire family coming to support her. She made the decision to focus all her efforts on Paris.
“I am currently in a positive state of mind. Ever since my visit to Budapest, things have been going smoothly. I am feeling confident, but I am also taking things one week at a time.”
I wanted to use the plan as a chance to practice for a competition and see how my training is progressing.
Naturally, these expert athletes are able to throw much farther, making it challenging to not have a point of comparison for your own throws – especially since the minimum distance for the first line is set at 16m, which is significantly further than my own throws. However, I can also use this opportunity to gain knowledge and learn from the specialists, making it beneficial in the long run.
I am pleased to say that I have finally found a successful training routine and am extremely satisfied with my progress thus far. I am thoroughly enjoying my preparations for the upcoming year in Paris.
Jemma Reekie emerged victorious in the 800m event as she sets her sights on her first senior championship title in Glasgow next month.
