According to Jamie Carragher, Dominik Szoboszlai may play a key role as Liverpool attempts to defeat Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s team entered the game as the league leaders, with a mere one-point lead over City. This rivalry between the two managers dates back to their time at Borussia Dortmund, when Klopp was in charge and Guardiola was with Bayern Munich.
Liverpool suffered from injuries leading up to the match, as Mohamed Salah was only able to begin on the substitutes’ bench. In addition to this setback, news of Ibrahima Konate’s problem emerged, resulting in Jarell Quansah being selected to play alongside Virgil van Dijk in the center of the Reds’ defense.
When Carragher was questioned by Sky Sports about Liverpool’s midfield, he responded by saying that he believes Curtis Jones should be included in the top four and would make up three of the preferred midfielders. However, the question remains if Dominik Szoboszlai, who had an impressive start of the season, will have sufficient playing time.
Although he has faced some injury setbacks, his speed and endurance on the field are impressive and sets him apart from players like (Wataru) Endo and (Alexis) Mac Allister. This was a key factor in the success of Liverpool’s midfield during the first years under Jurgen Klopp’s leadership.
The energy they brought used to be a challenge for Manchester City.
In my opinion, it is crucial for Szoboszlai to be on the field because he adds speed and pressing skills. This is necessary to prevent Rodri and John Stones from controlling the ball, and I believe Szoboszlai is capable of achieving this.
Carragher also praised Liverpool’s goalkeeper before the match, stating that Caoimhin Kelleher has prevented the team from losing games. He also noted that with Kelleher on the team, Alisson Becker’s absence as the current league leaders has not been noticed.
