The Tottenham footballer Richarlison is confident in his ability to handle pressure once again, for his team and his country, as the Brazilian team prepares to take on England at Wembley.
The player who is 26 years old recently recovered from a minor groin operation and has since scored nine goals for Tottenham. They are currently trying to qualify for the Champions League under manager Ange Postecoglou.
Richarlison admitted that dealing with his injury setback was a difficult time for him. He had to avoid shooting during warm-ups because of the pain and even sought the assistance of a club psychologist to take care of his mental health.
Richarlison, who is nearing 50 appearances for his national team, understands the weight of responsibility that comes with wearing the Brazilian number nine jersey. He was visibly emotional when substituted off without scoring in the World Cup qualifying match against Bolivia in September.
Nevertheless, the leading figure of the Spurs is resolute in setting a good role model.
During a press conference, Richarlison expressed the magnitude of the responsibility.
I have a powerful reputation and children are fond of me. I always make an effort to meet expectations and avoid disappointment.
“I am aware of the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt, especially for a prominent club in England.”
During his work with a therapist, Richarlison stated: “As a member of the national team and someone with influence, I urge others to seek help as it truly saved my life. I was at my lowest point.”
Having a psychologist on the national team is crucial in supporting the well-being of athletes.
“We are the only ones who truly understand the pressure we face, not just on the field but in our personal lives as well. I personally experienced a lot of pressure outside of the game. Seeking help from a psychologist can be very beneficial.”
“I used to have a bias towards seeking help, but I have overcome it.”
Andreas Pereira, a midfielder for Fulham, received his first invitation to join the Brazilian national team in six years from new head coach Dorival Junior. The two had previously worked together during Pereira’s loan at Flamengo from Manchester United.
The 28-year-old, originally from Belgium and formerly a member of their youth teams until age 17, is eagerly anticipating the chance to take on England at Wembley.
Pereira mentioned that they are aware of their strengths and that they boast a talented roster.
“We hold England in high regard, but we are confident in our abilities. In Brazil, we will always have skilled players and a strong team.”
“We are aware that the game will be challenging, but we are fully prepared and confident in our abilities.”
Gleison Bremer, a defender for Juventus, has officially joined the rest of the Selecao team at their St Albans location. He will be taking the spot of Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes, who had to pull out due to an injury.
Following their match against England, Brazil will make their way to Madrid to face Spain in a friendly on Tuesday.
