Forest Green has named Steve Cotterill as their new manager, with the goal of maintaining their position in the Football League after a tumultuous six games under Troy Deeney.
Deeney was fired last week after only serving in the position for 29 days. During this time, he expressed remorse for a highly publicized outburst directed at his players following a loss at home to Harrogate.
In his first role as a manager, he only earned three points out of a possible 18. As a result, Rovers remained at the bottom of the Sky Bet League Two standings and are now on the hunt for their fifth permanent boss in under a year.
Dale Vince, the chairman, has looked to the more seasoned Cotterill for guidance. Cotterill has previously been a part of Cheltenham, Stoke, Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest, Bristol City, and Birmingham as his past teams.
He has been unemployed since departing from Shrewsbury in June of last year, following a two-and-a-half-year period at the League One team. He is now assuming control of Forest Green, a team that is currently six points away from avoiding relegation.
On Thursday, Cotterill will be responsible for leading the training session and is anticipated to be present on the sidelines for the upcoming game against Accrington this weekend.
Vince expressed his excitement in bringing Steve Cotterill on board at FGR. With 25 years of experience across all levels of the EFL and close to 900 games, his track record speaks for itself.
“Steve is fully aware of the necessary steps and shares our determination to prevent relegation this season. We aim to rebuild and work our way back up to League One, with our sights set on further advancement. Our fans are sure to welcome this decision.”
