Erik ten Hag expressed his pride in Manchester United’s determined performance in a tough 0-0 draw at Anfield. The match concluded with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk stating that only one team made an effort to secure the win.
All attention was focused on Anfield as the fierce opponents clashed on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp’s team aimed to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League while the visitors attempted to break their losing streak.
Liverpool attempted 34 shots during the match, but United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana made eight saves. Despite their efforts, the hosts were unable to score.
The tense confrontation resulted in a tie, leaving skipper Van Dijk feeling frustrated. He remarked that United were pleased to have earned a point.
According to the centre-back’s statement to Sky Sports, it was clear that we dominated the game, controlling possession and generating chances. It appeared that our team was the only one actively seeking to secure a victory.
“I am disappointed that it didn’t occur. This is particularly frustrating because we strive to win every game, especially when facing a team like them.”
Ten Hag, the manager of United, disregarded the statement made by his Dutch compatriot, stating that “it is his personal viewpoint.”
The manager of the Red Devils did not reveal his thoughts on Diogo Dalot’s red card for two consecutive bookings for showing dissent. He stated, “I will let you make your own judgement.”
Ten Hag was more open about his team’s response to their concerning consecutive losses at Old Trafford against Bournemouth and Bayern Munich.
The Dutchman stated that we should have possessed the ball more and completed three or four passes in order to take advantage of our capabilities and potentially cause more damage to the opponent.
In the end, it must be noted that we had the most promising opportunities from open play for both Rasmus Hojlund and (Alejandro) Garnacho.
I expressed my pride in the team after the game in the locker room. I believe we should make this a regular occurrence.
For example, the Newcastle match was also difficult. We made one error, lost focus, and gave up a goal.
“When you remain in the game and adhere to your game plan, opportunities will arise for you to capitalize on or make multiple passes after regaining possession. This allows for more control and dominance in the game.”
At the end of the weekend, United is in seventh place in the Premier League. Liverpool’s perfect record at home this season has come to an end, causing them to currently hold the second place position.
Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Brighton in the early kick-off saw them go top and, while claiming it is too early to talk about the title, boss Jurgen Klopp saw promising signs from his side on Sunday.
“Undoubtedly, there is room for improvement and currently we find ourselves in a position where drawing against United is quite disappointing,” stated the Liverpool manager.
“It may seem odd, but this is how things are. However, everything is fine. We are in the rightful position and we will continue from here and see what happens.”
“We also have injuries to deal with. While they may not be discussed as much, they still impact us, especially considering the frequency of games.”
Today, my boys seemed fully prepared to take on a difficult challenge. Let’s give it our all and see what happens.
“Today’s game was extremely significant if we focus on the positive aspects, as our counter-pressing was the strongest we have seen from this team.”
