According to the PA news agency, Tottenham’s Eric Dier, a centre-back, will have a medical examination in Germany on Thursday for his 4 million euro transfer to Bayern Munich.
The Spurs have been open to receiving offers for Dier since the summer. However, under manager Ange Postecoglou this season, the defender has only started one game.
Dier, who had only six months remaining on his current contract, will be departing from England to take on a new opportunity with former teammate Harry Kane in Munich.
Postecoglou stated at the start of the campaign that Dier had the potential to depart from Tottenham. However, after the summer transfer window, he stayed with the team and eventually played his first match in November against Chelsea where they lost 4-1.
He received a starting position in Tottenham’s upcoming match against Wolves, but has only played twice as a substitute since and was not present during Friday’s 1-0 victory against Burnley in the FA Cup.
Postecoglou maintained that it was due to a minor injury, however, Bayern had already expressed interest in Dier at that time and have now come to terms with Tottenham for his acquisition.
Dier has recently arrived in Munich for a medical examination and will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur after nearly ten years of service in N17.
During his press conference before Friday’s match against Hoffenheim, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel announced that Dier’s signing is expected to happen soon.
Eric Dier has participated in the Premier League this season.
“There is always the possibility for things to go awry at the last minute. He is currently in Munich and we are working to complete the deal,” Tuchel informed the reporters.
“He’d be a good alternative for the squad. We’ll have to wait and see with everything else, but he’s in the city.
“Eric has developed a strong expertise as a center-back player. He is capable of playing in either center-back position, as well as in a back three formation. In the past, he primarily played in midfield. We will wait and see if this change actually occurs.”
Tottenham’s week remains packed, as Timo Werner arrived on loan on Tuesday and Genoa’s Radu Dragusin is set to finalize his transfer to the club on Thursday.
On Thursday evening, the Spurs officially announced that Djed Spence will be on loan to Genoa until the end of the season.
