The manager of Chelsea, Emma Hayes, does not anticipate her team feeling intimidated by the loud and supportive home crowd in Paris for their last match in the Women’s Champions League group stage.
The team led by Hayes, who advanced to the next round after defeating Real Madrid 2-1 last week and finishing first in Group D, will now face Paris FC, who also have the chance to move forward with a win.
On Tuesday evening, Paris needs to secure a victory at Sebastien Charlety Stadium and rely on Swedish team Hacken to not defeat last-place club Real Madrid.
During a press conference, Hayes stated that the upcoming game holds significance for both teams. Having faced Paris in a previous home game, we are aware of their strengths. It is clear that they are determined to win, but we are also motivated to come out on top.
“We hold them in high regard. We are aware that it is their territory and we anticipate a large audience.
“Performing in front of an audience is a regular occurrence for us. We are accustomed to large numbers and enjoy playing with a crowd.”
“We have previously competed in Paris, specifically at PSG, thus we are familiar with the atmosphere and our players greatly enjoy performing in front of large crowds.”
Chelsea is currently leading the Women’s Super League with only one loss in their first 12 games. They have remained undefeated in Group D with three wins and two draws.
On Sunday, they will be competing to increase their advantage over Manchester City by three points in the WSL standings. They will be playing against Everton at their home field. However, Hayes is solely focused on their upcoming match in Paris.
“We have a great deal of respect for our competitors and our team,” stated Hayes. “We are aware of their strengths and in particular, their speed on the flanks.”
In my opinion, they also have strong experience in the center. I believe the upcoming game will be distinct from the one at Stamford Bridge.
Due to an injury, goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger will not be playing and midfielder Melanie Leupolz from Germany will be taking a break. However, Hayes has stated that the rest of the squad will remain unchanged.
