In 2024, Eddie Howe is optimistic that Newcastle’s season will improve with the performance of their record-breaking player, Alexander Isak.
The striker from Sweden, whose transfer cost £63 million, has faced multiple injuries during his 16 months at St James’ Park. However, he has displayed glimpses of his skill that convinced the Magpies to spend a significant amount on him in the summer of 2022.
On Tuesday, Isak scored his 10th goal of the season during a 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest. He will now go back to the place where he scored his first goal for the club on his debut, Anfield, when they play against Liverpool on New Year’s Day.
When questioned about the potential of the ex-Real Sociedad player, coach Howe confirmed that there is indeed more to expect.
He possesses a wealth of skills and abilities that can greatly benefit our team. He excels as both a technician and an athlete, and is adept at finding the back of the net. He has a knack for scoring goals.
“Alex has had a frustrating couple of weeks as he has been unable to meet his physical goals due to a minor groin injury.”
“He has returned to his peak physical condition – I was happy with his performance against Nottingham Forest, he did exceptionally well. On another day, he could have potentially scored two or three additional goals. He is a formidable threat.”
On August 31st of last year, Isak scored a fantastic goal to give Newcastle the lead in the first half against the opposing team on Merseyside. However, in the end, they ended up losing with a score of 2-1.
Last season, the Magpies experienced only five losses in the Premier League. However, this season has been much more challenging for them, as they are competing in the Champions League for the first time in twenty years.
Forest’s victory on Boxing Day resulted in their eighth loss of the league season and sixth defeat in seven matches across all competitions.
When questioned about whether the club needed to unite during a difficult period, Howe confidently stated that there is always a need for unity within a team.
”
The most successful clubs and teams possess a strong sense of unity and confidence in one another, as well as a collective spirit that allows them to overcome tough times and sustain their achievements, which are both equally demanding.
“I have no problems with the players. We recognize that we need to make improvements and that is what we will strive to do.”
