Eddie Howe has declared that he will determine his own destiny at Newcastle despite rumors connecting Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann to the position.
On Saturday, the Magpies will face Wolves in the Premier League, currently in 10th position. However, they are significantly behind their performance from last season, where they finished in the top four.
According to a report out of Germany, Newcastle may consider hiring the former Bayern manager if they choose to replace Howe after the season.
When questioned about the rumors, Howe responded by stating that he is unbothered by them. He believes that his actions will determine his future, not anyone else.
Howe has made a major impact at St James’ Park since his appointment in November 2021, first steering the club out of a relegation fight and then masterminding a charge to last season’s Carabao Cup final and Champions League qualification.
He openly acknowledges that it was a major accomplishment, but an early elimination from Europe along with a less exciting campaign this season, plagued by injuries to important players, has resulted in some criticism.
Nevertheless, despite his team securing a challenging quarter-final match against Manchester City in the FA Cup this week, head coach Howe remains determined to achieve a successful end to the season.
He stated that it is his responsibility to constantly demonstrate his capabilities. He believes in himself and his skills. He understands his strengths and what he contributes to the role. He also has goals for the team and the organization.
I have no control over the words and speculations of others. I do not involve myself in them.
The club’s new owners quickly hired Howe after taking over, and he has received strong backing for his efforts thus far.
He stated that he has received tremendous support and understanding from the people at the club, and while he cannot speak for them, it has been crucial for him during difficult situations and challenges. He emphasized the importance of feeling supported.
Despite any stress that Howe may experience, he can still turn to playing the piano as a way to cope, as he recently disclosed that he is still actively trying to improve his skills.
When asked if his wife and sons were awed by his performance, he responded with a smile, “No, they’re not impressed. Both of my older sons who play are actually better than me.”
“When I am playing the piano, my mind is not occupied with formations such as 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. It allows me to escape from other thoughts and responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity for me, as most of my life is consumed by football even during mundane tasks such as walking the dog or trying to sleep.”
“However, the infrequent tasks that you can engage your mind in do divert your attention from the game.”
After being told he may have to do karaoke if his team wins the FA Cup, he responded by saying: “If we manage to win, I’ll be willing to do anything.”
