David Moyes is optimistic that West Ham United has reached a turning point after finally defeating their long-time troublesome opponent Brentford, with a final score of 4-2.
During an evening filled with milestones, Jarrod Bowen achieved his first hat-trick in his career, providing relief for manager Moyes following a tough stretch of eight consecutive matches without a victory.
In 2024, Bowen scored his first goals since Christmas and helped his team win their first match. He also became the first player from the Hammers to score a hat-trick at the London Stadium.
This suggests that despite concerns about their performance and the fate of manager Moyes, West Ham has regained their position in eighth place and is once again in contention for a spot in European tournaments.
Many teams in the Premier League face challenging times. Manchester City and Liverpool have experienced this, so it is likely that West Ham will also. Moyes stated this.
“Our team has faced difficulties in fielding our top players, but if we can have our strongest lineup, we have the ability to compete against the majority of teams.”
Bowen found the net twice within the first seven minutes, while Neal Maupay scored one for the Bees. The Bees had won in all five of their previous Premier League matches against West Ham.
Bowen scored his third goal in the middle of the second half, and Emerson Palmieri followed with a 20-yard shot. However, Yoane Wissa scored another goal for the opposing team.
Moyes added that he is happy for Jarrod, whose strong performances may have been overlooked due to the team’s struggles on the field.
“Tonight, he achieved success in his overall performance through his continuous effort and offensive presence. Hopefully, his goals will make Gareth Southgate consider him for the English team.”
“If you possess the ability to play in a wide position and have a knack for scoring goals, the national team coach will likely take notice of you.”
During half-time, Maupay and Nolan, the coach of the Hammers, were observed engaging in a intense conversation as the teams returned to the field.
Moyes stated that he was unaware of the identity of the involved parties in the incident as he had initially assumed it was with the fourth official. He did not witness the event, therefore he is unable to provide any information about it.
Brentford, already plunged deeper into the relegation scrap earlier on Monday following Everton’s points deduction being reduced from 10 to six, suffered another defeat – their 12th in 15 matches since beating West Ham at home in November.
“According to boss Thomas Frank, our performance today, both individually and as a team, was not up to par. West Ham, on the other hand, played exceptionally, with Bowen being unstoppable and Emerson scoring a top-corner goal. Unfortunately, this resulted in a 4-2 loss for us.”
I need to review the game again because one of our strengths has been our consistent play. There have only been a few instances where we have not performed to our usual standard, and this was only the third time this season.
Frank was asked if the Everton situation had any impact, to which he replied, “No, not at all.”
At present, I am highly displeased with our performance, and that is our primary concern.
