Alessia Russo secured a 1-0 victory for Arsenal against Tottenham in the north London derby, in the presence of a packed stadium.
The Emirates Stadium was filled to capacity for the second consecutive game as 60,050 fans witnessed the Gunners maintain their strong presence in the Women’s Super League title race.
Mead assisted Russo for the winning goal in the second half, with Russo scoring from six yards out only four minutes after the break.
Manchester United lost further ground on the top three as they were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham. Rachel Williams gave the visitors a fourth-minute lead with her 50th WSL goal.
However, Viviane Asseyi scored a goal five minutes before the end of the game, resulting in Marc Skinner’s team being nine points behind third-placed Arsenal.
Emma Koivisto scored twice as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 4-1.
In the 19th minute, Grace Fisk’s shot was redirected into the goal, putting Liverpool in the lead. Sophie Roman Haug then scored a second goal, but Sarah Mayling was able to score for their team on a penalty kick.
At the 60-minute mark, Koivisto scored the third goal, and also later secured a fourth goal with eight minutes remaining, bringing the Reds to an equal number of points as Manchester United.
Brighton defeated Bristol City, who are currently in last place, with a score of 7-3, increasing their lead to eight points above the relegation zone.
In the 20th minute, Elisabeth Terland scored the first goal and four minutes later, Pauline Bremer added another, giving the visiting team a 2-0 advantage before halftime.
Megan Connolly scored for the City, but Terland’s second goal of the day, along with Tatiana Pinto’s strike, gave Brighton a 4-1 lead.
Brooke Aspin and Amalie Thestrup scored two goals within three minutes, bringing Bristol City back into the competition.
However, any chance of a remarkable comeback was dashed when Madison Haley scored in the 89th minute, followed by goals from Vicky Losada and Katie Robinson during stoppage time.
