Two women have demonstrated their ability to form friendships in any situation, including on a turbulent flight.
Lila Smith posted a video on TikTok explaining her encounter with turbulence on a recent flight with United Airlines. The experience was so intense that both she and the stranger seated next to her were afraid of what might happen.
The video started with Lila and her seatmate, Sabrina, drinking small bottles of Jack Daniels. Text appeared on the screen saying: “Me and my seatmate Sabrina nearly died.” They recorded themselves trying to calm each other while sitting with their arms linked.
Sabrina and Lila both began joking about their predicament, with Sabrina advising viewers to avoid flying with United Airlines while Lila added, “You’re not a good swimmer, are you?”
Sabrina responded that she would hitch a ride on someone’s shoulders and fabricate a pregnancy to secure the first spot. Lila jokingly expressed her willingness to do the same.
Eventually, the two individuals became very scared due to the rough air and requested assistance from a flight attendant to confirm if their experience was typical. The flight attendant responded by assuring them that they were in no danger.
“I’ve experienced this situation before. Honestly, I’ve been through worse,” she responded. Sabrina then made a joke about creating a GoFundMe page in case the plane crashed.
As the plane touched down, Lila concluded her TikTok and informed viewers that she and Sabrina had both survived the experience.
After the video was uploaded, it garnered more than one million views. Several commenters found amusement in Lila and Sabrina’s playful conversation during the flight. One comment stated, “This is definitely back row energy.”
Another person commenting also shared their thoughts, stating: “The statement ‘Make sure someone pays for my funeral- that was a nice flight’ had me laughing uncontrollably!”
A person who claimed to be a United Airlines flight attendant also joined in the conversation, commenting: “I am a United flight attendant. The turbulence on the East Coast tonight was unbelievable.”
Some individuals remarked on the lovely dynamic between Lila and Sabrina, praising how fast they bonded as friends. One comment stated, “It seems like the two of you have known each other forever, chatting with that random lady.”
Another individual commented, “Please assure me that you all will stay in contact now.”
Per Lila, who was interviewed by Insider, she and Sabrina did not share contact information or communicate after the flight. However, Lila believes that their paths cross for a purpose and felt a connection with Sabrina during the flight. She also described Sabrina as “hilarious” and found comfort in her company.
Lila mentioned that she informed Sabrina about her plans to create a TikTok video about their shared experience, but she is unsure if Sabrina has viewed the clip yet.
Lila shared with the outlet, “Sabrina and I made a pact to stick together if this flight goes down. I wish her and her family a good time, but who knows, maybe we’ll end up sitting in the back row on the return flight.”
The Independent has reached out to Lila for a response.
