The United Auto Workers union (UAW) launched several attacks against the Trump campaign on Tuesday following former President Donald Trump’s live interview with Elon Musk on X on Monday night.
The union indicated in a statement that it had filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board, accusing Trump and Musk of intimidating workers with their comments in the broadcast.
The UAW account on X shared a video on Tuesday highlighting a part of the interview during which Trump described Musk supposedly firing a group of striking workers, but it was unclear if he was speaking about a real situation.
“I mean, I look at what you do,” Trump told Musk. “You walk in, you say, You want to quit? They go on strike, I won’t mention the name of the company, but they go on strike and you say, That’s okay, you’re all gone … So, every one of you is gone.”
Meanwhile, Trump joked about fleeing to Venezuela if he loses November’s election during his highly-anticipated interview with the tech entrepreneur, which suffered a 40-minute derailment thanks to technical glitches.
The Latin American Republic is a “far safer place” than the US, the GOP presidential nominee declared in a wide-ranging chat in which he was rarely fact-checked.
Walz responds to attacks on his service record
Walz responded to attacks on his service record after spending 24 years in the Army National Guard.
“These guys are even attacking me for my record of service. And I just want to say I’m proud to serve my country, and I always will be,” he said.
“With my dad’s encouragement, a guy who served in the Army during the Korean War, I signed up for the Army National Guard two days after my 17th birthday, I served for the next 24 years,” he added.
“Then in 2005 I felt the call of duty again, this time being service to my country in the halls of Congress, my students inspired me to run for that office, and I was proud to make it to Washington. I was a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee and a champion of our men and women in uniform,” Walz said.
“I’m going to say it again as clearly as I can. I am damn proud of my service to this country and I firmly believe you should never denigrate another person’s service record,” he added. “Anyone brave enough to put on that uniform for our great country, including my opponent, I just have a few simple words, thank you for your service and sacrifice.”
Walz slams Trump for his treatment of workers
Tim Walz slammed Donald Trump while speaking to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union in Los Angeles.
“He spent a decade stiffing service workers from dishwashers, waiters, and carpenters on his own properties to enrich himself,” he said. “As president, he cut overtime benefits for millions of workers, and he opposed any effort to raise the minimum wage. That’s all you need to know. You don’t have to ask twice.”
Trump campaign shares fundraising numbers from Musk interview
The Trump campaign has announced that it raised $1m from the link created specifically for the X interview with Elon Musk on Monday night.
“President Trump will do everything he can to bring his unscripted message directly to the people, something the fake news media refuses to do,” Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement. “While Kamala Harris enjoys the luxury of hiding from the press, President Trump accepted Elon’s invitation to have an unfiltered conversation about his America First policies with voters and people around the world. The media can lie, but the numbers don’t: Americans are eager to hear from President Trump and his momentum is only growing as we get closer to November 5.”

Tim Walz said on Tuesday that he’s the first union member on a presidential ticket since Ronald Reagan.
Walz is speaking to members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union in Los Angeles.
“I happen to be the first union member on a presidential ticket since Ronald Reagan. But rest assured, I won’t lose my way,” he said. “Probably should be a few more union members in elected office.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is set to host a panel with Democratic women governors during the Democratic National Convention next week, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The daytime panel is scheduled for August 21 and will feature Governors Katie Hobbs of Arizona, Laura Kelly of Kansas, Janet Mills of Maine, Maura Healy of Massachusetts, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Kathy Hochul of New York, and Tina Kotek of Oregon.
