Tune in to the live broadcast as Rishi Sunak answers questions from the Prime Minister on Wednesday, January 17th, leading up to a potential vote on his proposed legislation regarding deportations to Rwanda.
Yesterday, the prime minister experienced the largest Conservative rebellion of his term in office. Around 60 Conservative members backed amendments to the Safety of Rwanda Bill proposed by Sir Bill Cash, a long-standing Tory politician.
Conservatives are advocating for measures to block the use of UK and international laws in stopping or postponing the deportation of individuals to Rwanda.
Well-known individuals within the Conservative party, including Liz Truss, Suella Braverman, Sir Iain Duncan Smith, and Sir Simon Clarke, were in favor of the modifications.
Two experienced red wall MPs, Lee Anderson and Brendan Clarke-Smith, stepped down from their party roles in order to vote in support of the changes.
Jane Stevenson resigned from her position as a parliamentary private secretary at the Department for Business and Trade in order to support the proposed changes.
This evening, the bill’s third reading will be crucial as no Conservatives voted against it during the second reading, despite similar warnings from the party’s right-wing members.
