Tune in to see Rishi Sunak being interviewed by Sir Keir Starmer during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday 13 December, following his successful vote on the Safety of Rwanda Bill last night.
The leader of the government spent the day negotiating with potential dissenters in order to prevent a loss on his prominent promise to “stop the boats.”
His attempt to garner support was successful as Members of Parliament voted 313 to 269 in favor of the bill at its second reading, granting the government a decisive majority of 44.
However, conservative members of the Tory party stated that they may vote against the proposed legislation in the future if it is not revised to ensure that asylum seekers can be sent back to Rwanda before the next election.
Many abstained, but not a single Tory MP voted against the bill. Notable figures such as former party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith and former business secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg showed their support for the bill.
