Are you looking for new adventures in 2024? A great source for travelers seeking new experiences is the regularly updated list of airline route openings created by schedule expert Sean Moulton.
On Saturday, January 13th, a new Ryanair flight route between two airports named after composers, Liverpool John Lennon and Warsaw Chopin, was launched.
According to various sources in the industry, the list extends until May 2025, which is when Jet2 will introduce several new routes such as Edinburgh to Burgas and Bristol to Kalamata.
Mr Moulton is also an avid traveller, and has picked out his five favourite new routes in 2024 for The Independent. Here they are, in order of the dates they are starting.
Begins: 31 March 2024
Bengaluru, a major city in Southern India, is known for its booming technology industry and stunning cultural landmarks. This new route marks the third Indian destination served by Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow, following Delhi and Mumbai, and provides a valuable connection between the UK and India for the diaspora.
The new route will directly compete with British Airways and may lead to lower prices for travelers.
Flight from Birmingham to Tivat operated by Jet2.
Begins: 2 May 2024
The popular destination in Montenegro is located on the picturesque Bay of Kotor, boasting gorgeous beaches and pleasant temperatures. Thanks to this new route, Jet2 will now offer vacation packages to the Montenegrin coast. In addition to their existing flights from Manchester to Tivat, the airline will also be expanding to include London Stansted by 2024.
There are other airlines that fly to Tivat, such as easyJet from Luton, Gatwick, and Manchester.
SunExpress offers flights from London Stansted to Adana.
Begins 24 May 2024
“Situated in southeastern Turkey near the Mediterranean Sea, Adana is among the ancient cities of Cilicia. While many prefer to visit popular tourist destinations like Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum, or Izmir for a taste of the Turkish sun, Adana offers a peaceful and genuine Turkish experience steeped in culture. Additionally, it allows for easy access to the Aladaglar National Park.”
At present, there is no other airline that provides a connection between the UK and Adana.
Atlantic Airways offers flights from London Gatwick to Vagar.
Begins: 1 June 2024
Vagar, the capital of the Faroe Islands, serves as the entrance to the archipelago and boasts stunning natural features such as lakes, mountains, and cliffs to discover. Despite its small population, the islands offer a unique summer escape due to their intriguing past and remote location.
During the offseason, the primary connections to Vagar are typically from Copenhagen and Berlin.
Tui Airways offers flights from Manchester to Luxor.
Begins: 7 November 2024
Starting in the winter of 2024, Tui will be providing weekly trips from Manchester and London Gatwick to Luxor. Luxor is famous for being the biggest outdoor museum in the world and is also where one can embark on a Nile river cruise and visit various monuments and temples.
The flight path from Manchester will cover a distance of 2,624 miles, making it one of the longest routes for short-haul planes.
