The initial two sets of unsealed court records for Jeffrey Epstein disclose several well-known individuals whose names were mentioned multiple times in various documents, including footnotes.
Included in the group are two ex-presidents of the United States – Donald Trump and Bill Clinton – as well as Prince Andrew, all of whom have been photographed with and have a known connection to the disgraced financier in previous occasions.
Additional individuals who have been mentioned include attorney Alan Dershowitz, illusionist David Copperfield, singer Michael Jackson, and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Although the person may be mentioned in legal records, it does not automatically imply their involvement or knowledge of Epstein’s misconduct.
Ghislaine Maxwell
Not surprisingly, Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s accomplice, is one of the most frequently mentioned names, appearing more than 1000 times in the initial five sets of documents.
The name of the British socialite appears numerous times throughout the files, as they were used as evidence in a 2015 defamation case brought by Virginia Giuffre against her. However, the name “Maxwell” appears even more frequently, often in relation to legal issues and footnotes.
Maxwell’s presence was mentioned throughout the documents, as other witnesses were questioned about her connection to Epstein in their individual testimonies.
A significant portion of the data in the third and fourth batches of evidence, which were published on Friday, were sourced from Maxwell’s personal testimonies. These included inquiries about her interactions with Prince Andrew and Ms. Giuffre, as well as with former President Bill Clinton and other individuals.
As of June 2022, she has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for her involvement in the sex trafficking of underage girls.
Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson
Prince Andrew has been mentioned over 100 times in various documents. In the initial group, he was referenced 67 times with his royal title, but he is also mentioned multiple times as “Andrew” in other instances, such as in Maxwell’s deposition.
Evidence about the former duke’s purported behavior is outlined in the records, a significant portion of which he has previously refuted.
According to the testimony of Epstein’s victim Johanna Sjoberg, the Duke allegedly touched her breast while they were both sitting on a couch in the US billionaire’s Manhattan apartment in 2001.
Andrew was mentioned in relation to his infamous supposed trip to Tramp nightclub in London, which was a major topic discussed during his 2019 televised interview with journalist Emily Maitlis.
In the interview, the duke stated that he has a unique medical condition that prevents him from sweating. This was in response to Ms. Guiffre’s allegations that he was sweating in the club.
Andrew has consistently denied the accusations against him, while the Buckingham Palace has previously stated that all claims against the duke are “completely false.”
According to former employee Juan Alessi’s testimony, Sarah Ferguson, also known as the Duchess of York, is said to have visited Epstein’s New York residence with her former husband, Andrew.
Bill Clinton
Clinton’s name appeared in the first two sets of documents 83 times, but it has now been mentioned over 100 times. It is known that both he and Andrew had connections with Epstein in the past.
According to Ms Sjoberg’s statement, Epstein claimed that Clinton had a preference for young girls.
Before the documents were revealed, it was said that Clinton’s name would appear over 50 times in the censored papers, under the alias “John Doe 36,” as reported by the New York Post.
It has been reported that several mentions of the ex-president were thought to originate from Ms Giuffre’s initial efforts to persuade him to give testimony against Epstein and Maxwell.
The second group of evidence presented showed that the ex-president had taken a ride in Epstein’s personal helicopter with Maxwell and Ms Giuffre. Additionally, he allegedly tried to intimidate Vanity Fair into not covering Epstein’s supposed sex trafficking.
According to the documents, Ms Giuffre alleged that Clinton had visited the magazine’s office and urged them not to publish anything about “his close associate J.E.”
Not long before the papers were made public, Clinton was observed traveling to Mexico with his spouse, Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump
The documents also mention other former presidents besides Clinton. Donald Trump is mentioned in the initial release, but only four times.
During her testimony, Ms. Sjoberg stated that Epstein contacted the ex-president and went to one of his casinos after his plane was redirected to Atlantic City in New Jersey.
Ms Sjoberg reported that during their flight with the disgraced financier, the pilots had informed them that they could not make their planned landing in New York.
Jeffrey mentioned that they would contact Trump and go to a casino, although he couldn’t remember the name. In another part of the testimony, Ms. Sjoberg was asked if she had ever massaged Mr. Trump, and she answered “no.”
Additional references to Mr. Trump were included in the records published on Friday, as Mr. Alessi stated that he had transported Maxwell to the ex-president’s residence at Mar-a-Lago.
According to Mr Alessi, Mr Trump occasionally dined at Epstein’s house but preferred to eat in the kitchen with Mr Alessi. However, he did not receive massages at the Palm Beach residence because he had access to his own personal spa.
David Copperfield
According to reports, American illusionist David Copperfield was mentioned six times in the initial batch of documents. It was also stated that he had occasionally dined with Epstein.
One display panel stated: “During a dinner at Epstein’s, David Copperfield was in the company of a young girl named Johanna Sjoberg. When asked which school she attended, Sjoberg did not recognize the name as a college and suggested the girl may have been of high school age.”
Johanna stated that Copperfield inquired about my knowledge of girls receiving compensation for recruiting other girls.
Copperfield’s relationship with Epstein has previously been noted, including in a 2019 article from The New York Times, which described Maxwell’s role in acquiring young girls for the disgraced financier.
Hollywood stars
Several prominent Hollywood figures have been mentioned in various parts of the documents, but they were mostly only mentioned once or twice during Ms. Sjoberg’s testimony.
Ms. Sjoberg was questioned about encountering visitors at Epstein’s home, such as Star Wars creator George Lucas, who was only mentioned once, and actor Kevin Spacey, who was mentioned twice. She stated that she has no recollection of meeting either individual.
She also does not remember meeting British supermodel Naomi Campbell, who is named once in the documents. Other big indsutry names included Cate Blanchett, Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz.
According to Diaz’s spokesperson, she never had any contact or association with Jeffrey Epstein and did not meet him in person, despite any claims he may have made mentioning her name or implying they knew each other.
Representatives for DiCaprio and Blanchett have also refuted any involvement with the pedophile.
The former King of Pop, Michael Jackson, is mentioned twice when Ms. Sjolberg is questioned about meeting any celebrities while with Epstein. She confirmed meeting Jackson.
On Friday, Spacey and comedian Chris Tucker were mentioned once again. They were both accused of possibly being passengers on Epstein’s private jet.
Alan Dershowitz
Alan Dershowitz, the attorney representing Epstein, is mentioned numerous times throughout the text, often in the context of legal issues.
In contrast, other sources allege that the ex-Harvard Law School professor was among a group of influential figures whom Epstein coerced into engaging in sexual activities with young women on multiple occasions.
Ms. Sjoberg is questioned about engaging in sexual activities with Mr. Dershowitz while in the back of a limousine during her testimony. She refutes this claim.
Ms. Guiffre has accused Mr. Dershowitz of sexual abuse, alleging that Epstein trafficked her to him for sexual purposes. Mr. Dershowitz has strongly denied these accusations.
Before the documents were made public, he stated his desire for all documents and records related to Epstein to be released, claiming they would prove his innocence.
Sharon Churcher
On Thursday, Sharon Churcher, a British journalist, appeared in over 300 documents for the first time in the second batch of released materials.
According to the response document, Ms. Churcher was the only source for information about the initial Epstein story from Giuffre. Maxwell also alleged that she assisted Virginia Giuffre in fabricating sexual assault accusations against the Duke of York.
In a 2016 document, Maxwell’s legal team argued that Ms. Churcher should be required to testify as part of the case.
The document stated that she played a central role in altering these stories and adding new scandalous information about public figures. This included making up the claim that Alan Dershowitz had engaged in sexual activities with the plaintiff.
Mentions of Ms Churcher were found in subsequent portions of Ms Guiffre’s testimony.
